    My battle against rust!!!!

thanks to accordtunertx for the write up!
    The culprit:

    Yeah.. I know.. ouch...

Anyway, we grinded it with a wire brush:

Then we sprayed some rust killer on it:

Then some bondo (my first time using bondo hahahah):

    Sanded it down:

Then time to paint (Because we got tired of sanding):

done! The car was dirty and it doesn't SEEM like it matches in the picture, but it turned out great!!!!!!

Very nice job there...I would kill to have only the rust like you have...the problem with mine is its eroding the inner lip of my fenderwell, plus its rusting between the door and the wheel so i don't think its anything I can just bondo and let go...plus they don't have any touch up for my color that matches well, but anyways congrats on killing the rust...it looks like you did a really good job there...

for those who don't know, here's the diy rust removal thread 97lude is referring to.

doesn't seem to match as you said, but the rust problem was killed. hopefully you can show us some more after pics to get a sense of how it looks.

absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Actually its gonna come back through sooner or later....if you look at the pics you didnt completly remove all the rust, so since there is some still there, give it some time and it'll be back. Also the bondo is gonna crack and fall out, since its soo thick and wasnt layered, eventually. Dont get me wrong, its better than having the rust spot, i guess, but its not a permenate solution, but it should hold up long enough till you can get it properly done.

        This just got me:

That is a something that everyone doesnt take into consideration when doing body work/repair...sanding takes alot of time, if you want it too come out smooth, just look at rebels or my car...and think of all the hours spend sanding.

well to be honest, i dont care all that much about the cb7 as my prelude, i mean the paint is hopeless, so it'll need a new paint job before i attempt to sell it anyways

I too am one of the lucky ones. Of course I don't believe we have that much of a problem with rust in California. However I have experienced the horrors of rust with the cb7 I had before my current one. I finally gave up on it after I spend hundreds of dollars to get it fixed. Rust always comes back. Period. Unless you chop most of the quarter panel off and put new metal in.

I feel for you guys in the midwest and east coast. Salt is a motherfucker.

Usefull tip: Always check your trunk to see if it leaks. Especially after a big rainstorm. That contributed to the rust problem in my 90. Water would always collect inside the trunk area right where the common rust spots show up on the outside.

                you did it! sweet.

the first guy to attempt my DIY since i've posted it. looks good... let us see some pics when you get it all cleaned up

and just remember... if you EVER somehow start to see rust building up again... maybe little spots here and there... it's just surface rust. same with the cracking, accordlayinkit was right on that. it might crack a bit.... it's not metal. so, you'll need to sand it down a little using wet sand paper... and re-coat with primer and paint from time to time.

like i said, you might have to babysit it a little. but trust me... taking an hour our of each couple of months to sand out any imperfections that occur... is MUCH better (to me) than paying the crapload of money that a pro shop would charge to do the real deal.

it's temporary fix... but for me... it's permanent... i'm not paying 800 for getting it fixed for good. i do NOT care if i have to go out and work on my rust spots on a sunny afternoon for a couple hours. i'm not dishing the money.

just like accordlayinkit said..i dont do alot of body work by any means but i do some custom work on stereo and occasionly use bondo and duraglass to get the final shape done and even though it takes me a couple of days for layout and design..the sanding and forming sometimes will take weeks..the second you lay the paint down you will notice all the high low spots.

its like nothing in the world. definition of relaxation.
