3 days Micks.
Micks, we don't need shit started about the server. You know absolutely nothing about the current setup OR the past setup. If you keep running your mouth, we're going to have a bunch of uneducated idiots bitching about "server" issues that may be anything but. "Why does the search not work?" "Oh, because it's a windows server!"
The platform of the server has very little impact on anyone here. It really doesn't even influence me. If the site suffers, I will switch to another server. As it was, the site was going down for no reason (only twice... but enough) so this switch occurred. As many have said, it is much faster. I have direct access to the owner of the server, and he has a vested interest in this site as well... it's not some huge company that will bounce me around tech support for 24 hours just to get the damn thing reset!
In our current situation, I think this is highly beneficial.
There may be bugs. If anyone experiences any issues, please PM me about it. Things seem to have gone rather smoothly, though.
As for avatars, they were stopped because the vbulletin software stores them on the server and then draws on them from there... Even if you have them hosted elsewhere. That made for MANY MANY MANY views of those tiny little pictures. The clicksor ad stats in the past showed that this site gets 35,000-50,000 hits a day... so that means those server-based pictures would be viewed that many times (times 20, since that's how many you'll see on a full page of a thread). Back when we were on a fairly low-level shared server, that was a problem regarding bandwidth. We never tried it with the dedicated (or probably virtual dedicated) that we recently had. Supposedly, the new server will have even more room to work... so avatars MIGHT be possible. Let's see how taxing the site is on the server as it is now. Also, the new version of vbulletin may have corrected the issue, and allow the avatars to be hosted elsewhere without saving them to the server...

Google is far better.
Only thing I hate about Google searches of the site is the amount of crap that is stored on the site. Search for blackhoused headlights (pretty common subject that really only needs 2-3 threads to be completely discussed) It comes back with 689 hits!!! H22 is even worse 14,600 (after this post 14,601
)

Thanks!
