Somebody has been watching "The Universe" on the History Channel!

This is a cool demonstration I found about how the earth, planets and sun compare in physical size to other stars in the universe.

It doesn't show the relationship of distances between objects, or the sheer number of objects, but still interesting to see.

Also, when humans form, they start female, and if the chemical composition is correct, they become male.

I'm sure there's an explanation for this somewhere. I'm sure I'm not the first, or last, to ponder this... but I find it interesting.

how can the big bang have happened if matter can not be created or destroyed in the first place?

Matter can be created and destroyed. Actually, it can just be converted to and from energy. Matter = Energy

This is almost exactly my point above. Why is it so easy for someone to understand that "God" has always existed, and always will exists, cannot be "created or destroyed". But not be able to grasp the idea that energy or matter has always existed and cannot be created or destroyed.

I ask these people the following: One way or another matter and energy came into existence, we see the proof all around us. If God existed, he would undoubtedly be an extremely complex entity, more complex than anything else in the universe. So why do you feel its more probable that everything "began" in the most complex state possible, rather than the least complex state possible?

Aside from all that, there are scientific theories that matter/energy is actually destroyed at the center of super massive blackholes (like the one in the center of our galaxy), and in contrary, matter/energy is created in something called white holes. its really interesting stuff. Everything we know about physics breaks down at the center of a black hole, so no one really knows whats going on in there.

Representation of the universe according to inflationary cosmology.
The Big Bang Theory is the dominant scientific theory about the origin of the universe. According to the big bang, the universe was created sometime between 10 billion and 20 billion years ago from a cosmic explosion that hurled matter and in all directions.
In 1927, the Belgian priest Georges Lemaître was the first to propose that the universe began with the explosion of a primeval atom. His proposal came after observing the red shift in distant nebulas by astronomers to a model of the universe based on relativity. Years later, Edwin Hubble found experimental evidence to help justify Lemaître's theory. He found that distant galaxies in every direction are going away from us with speeds proportional to their distance.

The big bang was initially suggested because it explains why distant galaxies are traveling away from us at great speeds. The theory also predicts the existence of cosmic background radiation (the glow left over from the explosion itself). The Big Bang Theory received its strongest confirmation when this radiation was discovered in 1964 by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, who later won the Nobel Prize for this discovery.

Although the Big Bang Theory is widely accepted, it probably will never be proved; consequentially, leaving a number of tough, unanswered questions.

i find it amazing how people just discover this shit, i mean think of your self an ordinary human being do you think you would ever be able to think of this stuff?

Thinking theories is easy, and proving them is a matter of mathematics. Having them accepted as fact however, is a matter of politics.

read up on white holes, they don't create matter they repel infalling matter. I could just ask my gf about most of this stuff since she's an astronomer.

I said it was a theory. No one has ever even observed a white hole (or even a black hole, for that matter), so i don't know how anyone could know what happens at the center of one. Iv read everything from what I stated about them creating matter and spewing it out, to them simply being the reversal of a black hole when it reaches some critical point
