Anyone Ever Have A 89 Civic?

Hello a friend of mine needs a cheap car that runs and drives for a short period of time and his price range is 400-600 there's a 1989 HONDA CIVIC 151K fairly clean body for sale listed for 900 I'm sure I could get him down but are the civics fairly reliable cars? I've never known anyone with a civic of this age. Only reason why I'm thinking about steering him away from this car is because he needs to have a highway commuter and this isn't much of one with only what a 70HP engine?LOL.

    Here's the car : http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/4825686438.html

i had a 1990 sedan that I paid $200 for, with 285,000 miles on it. I put an alternator in it, gave it a tuneup and put tires on it. Drove it for 40,000 miles on it, never let me down once. Drove it to florida and back. It would be fine on the highway.

btw at that price thats a steal, if your friend wants it he better jump on it fast

Why wouldnt he be? The way I look at it is; there were interstates back in 89 correct? If a geo metro can do it, an 89 civic can do it too
For the love of god, STOP putting H.I.D's in stock housings!!! Projectors ONLY!!!

70 HP isn't going to win any drag races, but it won't have any issues getting the car up to 65 MPH. My Mom had a 91 Escort for a bunch of years that I absolutely loathed. Stock with 88 HP, I got it up to 70 once on the highway after a few miles of WOT.

The only thing I'd be worried about a smaller car that old as a highway commuter is safety. I wouldn't necessarily want to get hit by a large SUV with one of those, but as long as that doesn't happen, you've golden.
