First off, the only excuse I have is about 300 lbs of passengers and luggage.
Bringing the oldest two home from a weekend with their mother, I see some yellow lights in the rearview, I look back and the heads match the corners, colorwise, the guy gets behind me, then swings out and passes. I look over, it's a dropped eg hatch on steelies, got an exhaust, not just a can, painted rattle can white and not well. I see his tails for the next few miles, and then I see him getting over to get off at my exit.
I pull in behind him, the light changes, we make the left turn, and the first light is red and both lanes are open. I slip over to his left and come to a stop, look over at the car and I can almost read my sons minds: "Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it."
The road is 50 mph, four lanes divided by a wide grass median, and mostly country/industrial, so if he goes, I'm gonna go. This'll be over so quick it won't be funny.
The light changes and I let the clutch out and give it some gas, I don't want to just start spinning them if this guy's not into it, but he is, so I open it up and pull ahead about a half fender, shift it into second gear and I'm pulling on him, but his bumper is about the door handle still. I slap it into third gear and I hear him shift right after I do and then he's pulling on me hard. By the time I hit 70 his back bumper was even with my front bumper and he's pulling away hard. I let off it and flash him to let him know he got it. He flashes his hazards and we both slow down to a reasonable speed. Didn't get a chance to talk to him, he took the next left and was gone.
BlueBlur4138 :"I think that's the first time I've seen anyone beat you Dad."
Me: "Yeah, it'll happen once in a while. That little fucker was quick."
Snowboarder2153: "Yeah he was. I was thinking he was doing better than I thought he would and then he just walked you."
Me: "Yup, quick little bastard."
