ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Removing Paint Completely

I am trying to get a spare body panel back to bare metal

I have tried a lot of things including, orbital sander, battery acid, brake fluid, paint stripper (In a can), wax/grease remover....

Is there any EASY way to get the paint off? (That doesnt take hours)

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    I have this http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/dyna...3-p-11969.aspx

But orbital sander with 80 grit will work.. It will take a while if you use it on random orbital mode.. Mine you can lock into "grinder" mode and it will do it in a tenth of the time..

You can use 36 grit paper or 16 grit but I don't recommend it because since you used battery acid etc you do not know what you are doing and with the lower grits you can make a lot of future work for yourself..

The condition of the body panel is not important in the end, it just needs the paint and undercoat removed.

I guess ill try to find someone with one of those tools. I tried mine with 80 grit, and it only took the paint off on the edges.

Why do you want to go right back to bare steel?
You only need to take the actual base color off really for a respray.
Going back to bare steel makes the process more expensive and more time consuming.

It's not getting resprayed, It's not actually going back on a car.

          I just want bare metal

            Ahh, makes sense.
Paint stripper from Repco or Supercheap will do it

X2 Pour a whole can of paint stripper on it, let it sit, then wirebrush it with a drill, should come off. if not, repeat the process

Evil Demon, I have tried CRC Strip Off (Which normally works sweet on rocker covers etc) but it'd didnt penetrate deep enough and has sort of just made the paint textured now

look for Aircraft Stripper. That stuff should take it down to bare metal in no time.

Or the 3m paint and rust stripper - They wont damage the steel.

Thanks all, yea I figured a high end stripper would be best.

Will see if I can find some aircraft style stripper locally,
