ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

after doing a bit of research of my own the 1987 Olds 98 had a flip hood that first went up then slid forward then tilted down out of the way of the grill

the core support on that car was able to support the hood which weighed about 50 lbs.

if i was doing a reverse opening hood i would most likely use that set-up but modified to fit the cb chassis

No, but if anyone here can pull this off and do it right, this guy> fleetw00d.

And I believe you may be on to something. If there is a difference between the 83 Accord's "lines,"
it shouldn't be all that much at all, and very doable.

        Here's some of Fleetw00d's work:

edit: Ha! I just noticed that you 2 live in OH. I don't know how far West Chester is from Cinn, but ..
I would love to see this work ..

I am currently building a flip front end on my CD5 using the 98 Accord gas hinge. The key to getting it to clear the front grill is to have it lift and then rotate. A lot of the "clam shell" designs are on a fixed hinge and will not work on a car designed for a front lift hood. Unless you can get the hinges up as close to the leading edge of your hood.

Thanks for the heads up i kinda figured that was the case. I have everything from the car i got the parts from including the hood. In my mind simple is best that is why i want to use the accord clam shell instead of another design. Fabrication is not a stong point for me so I dont want to get into a fab heavy custom mod with say an olds clam shell you know.

I have talked this over with a mechanic friend of mine who use to do a lot of custom fabrication and once i explained what i wanted to do he looked on line for pictures of what the front end looked like on the 83 and the 90-93 accords and he thinks that it will work with only some minor reinforcement and fabrication. So i will get the parts next week or so and start the mod soon after that....

                  It is possible.

I met a guy from the Swift Car Club in Southern California. He had a 91 accord with a clamshell hood, along with the front doors being lambo doors, and the rear driver side was a gullwing door, while the rear passenger door was a reverse gullwing (hinge on the bottom). I'll see if I can find a pic.

I almost forgot i found a prelude with the clam shell style hood. The hinges are different from the 83 accord but that is another option for me with this mod.
