ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    My CB7 project

Hey Hey, I got my 92 Accord Ex (Canadian Ex) Last Fall, and left the rust repair for later, and later has arrived! The bad rust spots are on the front passenger wheel well panel:

    bottom of the drivers door:

    front of the hood:

    and both rear wheel wells:

I took off the plastic rear bumper:

So I could get to the rust above the bumber on the rear panels. I will have to add metal to repair the metal that rusted out, either using a tact welder, or pop rivets. The rear panels, and the hole in the door are the toughest challenges.

I also want to say thanks to ALL posters, I checked out this site a lot, and got a lot of info, making the work on my car MUCH easier. I will update on the progress.

    welcome to CB7tuners.

Where is your car from? Must have encountered a lot of salt in winter or something, my CB7 has encountered 17 years of Louisiana wetness and still has pretty much 0% rust.

He's from Quebec (plates) It's tough dealing with all of that rust. I've never seen that much taken off a door For working on the car instead of junking it. Oh yeah, welcome

        Eeek.

Why not replace the hood/fender/door instead of repairing them?

          ^^^ x2

I would replace everything you can then fix the parts that cant be easily replace like the rear quarter panels.

Ouch, that's a a lot of rust! I'd just hit up a salvage yard and find new fenders and door with no rust (or with a lot less rust than that ). I think it'd be easier to just replace the parts. Finding the right colour would suck of course, but you can always do a whole repaint of the car afterwards.

              Have fun!

                Hey hey!

Yeah I'm in Montreal so it has a LOT of salt, I got the car from my Uncle, he is the original owner, but he didn't do a lot of salt protection. The hood rust isn't too bad, just needs paint, that pic is after I grinded all the rust out, just needs paint. I just got rear quater panels today:

They were $65 CDN each ( I got for both sides), gonna rent a welder and weld it on, ( well my Dad will do the welding), and I will probably weld a piece of metal to cover up the hole in the door.

I got this car for free, my Uncle gave it to me when he bought his brand new Honda Civic last fall.

I've taken out the rust and I'm ready to weld on the rear quarter panels, gonna tackle that this weekend. I ended up taking off the front bumper b/c I noticed it had shifted to the passenger side, due to an accident my uncle had with it previously.

I took off the driver side fender,

with much diffuculty; I had to snap off a rusted on bolt (circled in red) (blue circle is for the other fender bolt, and green circles are for the side lights)

I also took off the rear bumper and snapped off anothe bolt there:

I have to find the paint for my car, I went to Car Quest and they wanted $90 for a quart! When I took out the fender I found more rust, so I have to grind that out too and paint it.

Repair day! I rented a MIG welder, and my Dad was going to weld, but after a few test welds, my dad decided that he was too out of practice, and the welding wouldn't go too well, so we decided to pop rivet the rear quarter panels in and the door patch. It's not as nice as a weld, but looks better that I thought, I know its gonna take some artful bondo and painting to make it look good, but I'm pretty sure I can handle it.
                          heres's the driver side door:

Here's a close look at the door hole patch:

Under those pop rivets is bare, unpainted metal. Without proper rustproofing, or even painting, and the seal of a weld, you're going to have those patch panels rust right out in a year or two.

Yeah I know, but I can get under the bare metal and I will be rustproofing it; paint, undercoating, then and nice oil treatment before every winter.
