    Bad wiring cuts off bass?

So today, I went to walmart to grab me a cheap Pioneer deck ($79.00). And some sony 6X9's for my rear speaker replacement. We started off by putting in the deck first, (was a bitch guranteed). I drive a 90 EX btw.

When I say we it was me and my buddy who used to drive a 93 cb till his tranny blew out and now his car is sitting in the garage. Figured he'd know how to put in the deck since the cars are similar. It took some time but we did get the deck in. We turned on the car and worked great. Since the deck put out better wattage then the oem honda one I had deep bass even on the stock speakers. Which was nice, it was what I was hoping for. Even with the 6x9 i would get a bit more bass too! But after I replaced the oem speakers with the sony speakers I lost alot of bass. I tried rewiring them, tried reseating the speakers, but nothing worked. I know you guys are like man this kids dumb, if you want bass get a sub. But naw man, im really saying this shit has no bump to it. It has great vocals on the person singing and other instruments play fine and clean! But where the fuck is the bass? also, I didnt replace my front speakers, is that the problem? But I doubt that. I must've done something wrong.

stock speakers are really only good for some bass. Aftermarket speakers are designed more for clarity. When I used to install stereo systems for a living I came across this issue time and time again.

You could double check all your wiring to make sure your speakers are not out of phase. Being out of phase will cancel out all the low frequencies and you'll lose your bass. A simple test would be to switch the wires on one of the two rear speakers and see if it sounds better or worse. If it sounds better, figure out which speaker is wired improperly.

Just be prepared to find that there won't be much you can do other than adding a sub.

when i 1st bought my 91 honda se it had stock speakers and no deck. when i put in the deck i was amazed how good the 6x9s sounded. when i replaced them it really made a diference. the stock ones seemd better in bass than the after market ones. not trying to put sony down but ive been in the car audio scene and sony does not do good in the 12volt scene. for around the same price u could have picked up some kickers. also another issue could be if u wired them incorrectly.

Reversed polarity can cancel out bass. Be sure the speaker wires are in the correct lines.

Adding a sub is not an option here, I dont like wires running all over my car, when I say no bass guys I really mean it (lol) Ill check my wirings today. Must've done something wrong, all 4 speakers work.

@cb7remnant - man thats what i thought too the decks EQ. I tried putting the bass at +6 but no use, oh wells.

                  like wherm stated,

aftermarket speakers are meant for giving clarity not bass..before I got my sub I had no kind of bass..another option you can do is run an amp to the 6x9 speakers..I know you dont want to run wires, but if you want bass youre going to have to run amps..

I personally have sony everything..so I know that the 6x9's are good for clarity and not that much bass without an amp or a sub..I have the sony 12 inch sub and its the only way to get good clear bass..

I think the reason our aftermarket speakers lose bass, is because they weren't designed for their enclosure (the trunk). Put those same speakers in a door and i bet they would sound better. What I actually think would help, would be some speaker baffles, cut a port in the bottom of them so some air can escape into the trunk, and I bet you'll get the bass back (if everything is wired up properly).

Also one other thing to think of, is that decks's these days have audio processors, and might not be feeding low frequencies to all speakers.

stocks are good for bass if you want to do that..but youre going to lose most highs and clarity is going to go out the window..the best thing to do is just get a small amp and wire the rears for mid and low..that way you get clear sound and sick bass..

other than that stock is your friend, but they can blow if overpowered

                              Be sure it's this

Left Rear Speaker Wire (+): Blue/Yellow
Left Rear Speaker Wire (-): Gray/White
Right Rear Speaker Wire (+): Red/Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Wire (-): Brown/White
Left Front Speaker Wire (+): Blue/Green
Left Front Speaker Wire (-): Gray/Black
Right Front Speaker Wire (+): Red/Green
Right Front Speaker Wire (-): Brown/Black

Same thing when I had my Accord. I bought it and suddenly notice I don't have bass.
Then the old owner told me he got new speakers installed and I thought he was bullshittin.
When I did some work on my own, I found out that whoever installed the speakers is a turd.
3 speakers are not wired properly , suffered reverse polarity.
