ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Speed Bikes

So I know nothing about speed bikes but I want to get one this summer. I already have a jacket/helmet/gloves from my brother since he sold his bike.

What's a good bike to start on? I don't want something that's going to scare the shit out of me but I don't want a puss box either. Something that is reliable and mod friendly is nice, easy to work on, easy to learn on.

Any tips you guys have or info about riding these things, thanks.

Start realistically. Have you ridden before? Even a 600 sport bike is dangerous if you don't know how to ride. I'd also recommend a good rider course to teach you how to ride defensively. It could save your life.

Despite the fact that lots of people have done it, I strongly recommend not starting on road. Grab a dirt bike, and tear up the country side first. Balance in riding a motorcycle is similar to riding a bicycle, but the physics and overall feel is a lot different. Motorcycles are a heck of a lot heavier, and in no instance can you really ever overpower yourself on a bicycle.

The whole balance, feel for power, and recovery during instability is going to be a learning hump at first, and its really best to take care of that on the dirt.

Even if it delays your road-riding experience for a couple years, grab a dirt bike. It's quite possible that you'll save a bunch of money that way. A bandage for falling in the dirt is a lot cheaper than medical bills for getting run over on the freeway.

As for a first road bike, you don't really need one of the new-ish Japanese inline four screamers, even in 600cc form. Their power is immense and basically non-linear. I personally would go for a used Ducati Monster. An older inline-four would be acceptable as well, like LITuner was suggesting.

Having a dirt bike was something I wasn't forunate to have, so when I got my first street bike, I was defintely scared out of my mind! But since your interested in one, I would look at CBR's for you. They are the most comfortable sportbikes in the market. My first bike is the one in my sig. 99 CBR F4, and it was a blast to learn on! Just start slow, and practice in parking lots, or abandoned roads. You'll get the hang of it. Good Luck, and ALSO WEAR A HELMET!!!

i have always wanted to build a flat black naked street bike.

but for cereal you should start off with a 600 that you wont feel bad dropping or scraping up, because it happens. even my buddies who went from racing enduro bikes to street bikes say its a whole different animal, they dumped their bikes a bunch too lol.

Start with a used 600cc bike. I say used because it will be your first time riding and learning. So expect to drop it, scrape it, and scratch it. The next major factor is which bike is right for you size wise. You need to go to a local dealer and get the salesman to let sit on a couple of different bikes to see which one your comfortable on. Don't just buy a cbr because you like the way it looks and your not comfortable riding it.

like said before, 600's CAN be too much. Especially if it needs work.
Find something in your price range that is 600cc or less. There isn't anything wrong with a Ninja 250cc or something to ride on for a learner. and it is pretty easy to control.

I dont know much about bikes but I was a cunt hair away from buying a brand new Honda CBR125R. It only costs like 3 G's brand new. Im sure it doesnt really have balls, but would probably be a good starter bike!
