So, yep. Bought a cold-air intake on Ebay. Wasn't shooting for quality, but...it's always been said that you can even use PVC pipe for any type of intake, but as long as you have a pretty decent air filter. So, I did get an air filter for it, waited for it in the mail. It's the blue one. It's only......1 piece? But, that didn't bother me. Was installing it, tight fit man. Very tight fit. Got it braced to the throttle body, wasn't a direct fit, cause it was about 2 inches from the bracket by the battery to brace it down so it doesn't move. Took my tire off, pulled my fender back, and was puttin' my air filter on. The insert to my air filter...it has a little rubber piece that came with it, so it can basically fit piping 3" and up. I noticed when I first took the cold-air pipe out of the box, that it was a bit thin. Yep, too thin. It's about 2 1/4". So, I rigged my filter onto the pipe, and took a drive. What junk. The piping's so thin, that the car strains for air. It hesitates sooooo bad man. I actually thought I was running out of gas a few times, cause it was straining for air on the highway. Put the gas to the floor, it acts like it wants to die, then slowly gets up to speed. And no, the way I rigged it wouldn't bother it at all. I used the piece of rubber that connects the short-ram to the throttle body, threw it on the end of the cold-air, and slid the filter onto that.
Was on my way to Pa, filled the gas tank up. About 35 miles down the road, my needle was already under the F. Usually it takes about 65-70 for the needle to even start falling. Pulled over to the gas station, took it off. (Had the short-ram in my trunk) Put the short-ram back on, and got back on the highway. Oh man!!! So much better!! I swear to you, I was watching...my needle fall. Once I put the short-ram back on, it stopped falling. I mean, yea...I'm having gas mileage problems, but this time I got pretty decent mileage since I cleaned the Plenum out, IAC valve, and changed the fuel filter. I could probably drive the car another 50'ish miles on this tank. That's a 50 mile improvement!! This time, it's PVC time. I'm not payin' 200+ dollars on a damn piece of aluminum piping. I'm sorry. If I gotta do that, I'd just keep the short-ram. So, either PVC time for the cold-air, or I'ma have to get a shield for the filter on the short-ram. Very shitty man. Paid 45 dollars for the product and shipping, and I don't think I can return it. It's an actual manufacture too. Hope their warehouse catches on fire when everyone's at home sleeping.

i understand why you guys are having so many problems
has any one ever seen the "front mount intakes" ? lol. I had one on my protege for a while. It felt like it increased torque in the higher rpms ish, it was pretty cool. A bit bulky though. For a 93 ex auto, what would be more useful, a short ram or cold air?
