    H22 question

is it easier to drop a h22 when its obd1 or obd2?
i can use my 97 vtec accord tranny with it?
    i feel good cause i beat a 350z~

I believe obd1 yeah you could use ur accord tranny. Its gonna be longer gears compared to the H tranny though

its not a big deal dropping the obd2 vs the obd1

on the obd2 you have to
1.change injectors and fuel rail to h22 obd1's
      2.change dizzy to a obd1 h23a1 ext coil dizzy
3.get rid of the crank postion sensors and harness....
4.wire up to use the map sensor on teh TB of the obd2 motor
      5.p13ecu or chipped ecu
      6.Down pipe from a obd1 prelude.
7.everything you would do for the regular h22 swap.

timing belt water pump valve cover gasket oil pain gasket cam, crank,
balance shaft seals rear main seal exsaust cam seal "behind vtec unit"
good time to do a clutch job

trans is good if you do alot of interstate driving... i have a 90 f22 trans mounted to my obd2 h22a4 motor... falls out of vtec between 1st & 2nd and will fall out between 2nd and 3rd if i am not pushing it very hard....

it means the gears are so long that when you shift to the higher gear your rpm is not in the vtec region

OBD1 is cheap than 2. but its just as hard to drop either of them

do you already have the engine and the tranny? cause if you do i say go ahead and do it, the only thing is that you will have to do more labor, mainly wiring, and then your ecu, as far as the tranny, i think there should be no problem

i think that it would be easier to do an obd1 since your car is obd1, (i think this is explained in the swap section under the faq section)

i got a jdm obd1 in my 93 ex and everything else on the car is stock, the mechanic used my stock accord harness and im even using my stock accord ecu

dont forget that belt tensioner swap

oh, okay so that must be why last month, when i saw this guy with a vtec dc he got on the main road and just gunned it, i heard when he hit vtec but when he shifted to second, (i dont think he used the clutch) he was still in vtec

i have heard that some of those b series trannys have super short gear ratio, you add a short shifter, lightweight flywheel, and stage two clutch, and i guess you can "live" in vtec land

Both swaps are just about the same. I just swapped in an obd2 H22A4 and am still using the H22 dizzy. You just have to make adapter harnesses for the CKR and TDC sensors. You can swap over your F22 fuel rail and use the stock injectors or put in obd1 H22 injectors. As for the map sensor you can either retain the H22 and reroute the F22 harness or use the F22 map sensor. You will have to redirect the map sensor vacuum using an adapter or just use an H23 throttle body.

OBD = On Board Diagnostic. Different ECU functions, different sensors, and different parts (the parts you need to change listed above...)

OBD2 takes a few more steps, but they're pretty much the same. IMO, there's no reason to get an OBD2 H22 unless you find a good deal on it (or want the Euro R or Type S)

even with a "B" series I think (in my opinion) it is still imposible to stay in v-tec when shifting to second...that is very hard....esp with a lightened flywheel....they rev faster and the rev also drop faster....a short shifter is not going to allow you to get into gear that much faster...it shortens your throw, but doesnt acually make your tranny go into gear much faster..you still have other factors to take into consideration.

WHaaaaat???? Stock H22s with Prelude (H22 or H23)transmissions should have no problem staying in VTEC with stock wheels if you rev past 7 and shift. Everything was designed to allow you to stay in vtec while racing. My stock prelude would do that all day long.

If the OBD2 H22 is JDM, after switching injectors and dizzy, you will NOT need to worry about timing-side crankshaft sensor wiring, they never did that there. Also the JDM OBD2s do not have Vtec Oil Pressure sensors, but your OBD1 ECU will, you can splice the VTOP wire into the VTSolenoid wire to trick the ECU, either at the ECU or in the engine harness.

Older, closed deck H22s must use 10w30 oil (ACCORDing to Honda, unless you never drive above 30degrees F), open deck engines use 5w30.

Also, if it matters, the Power Steering pumps and line are different on the OBD2s.

                            Good Luck.

i dont think you could shift a b-series tranny at high rpm without using the clutch (for sum reason they dont like abuse) if you can shift fast enough it will sound like you never used a clutch.. but thats a big nono for my trans.

i think with a b16 tranny he could stay in vtec all the time but the short shifter or flywheel has nothing to do with this (b16 trans. have uber short gears because they are supposed to be coupled to a low displacement, torqueless, high reving motor)

a longer gear trans. would suit me because i have like 0 hills and 0 twisty roads. so if 3rd gear can give me 110mph thats all the better for me
