ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    engine is tapping/ knocking

so today im just checkin out usual stuff like my oil and coolant levels and when i started my car i heard a lil knocking from my motor. it sounded like it was comming from the block but i wasent sure. could it be my valves tapping?

any1 have any ideas on what it is?

the car still runs normal i just hear the knocking. it does have 186k on it

alsoo with all you guys with gauges

for the air/fuel gauge what color wire on the 02 sensor do you connect the gauge to? my 02 is heated with 4 wires.

for the boost/vacuum (for now) what vacuum hose works best so that the gauge reads something.

for the oil pressure gauge where does the sensor that came with the gauge hook up to one the car? is it above the oil filter? what size bolt is that also.

I'll let someone else help with your other questions, as I'm not very knowledgeable there...

Anyway, for your knocking... check your spark plugs. See if any threads are damaged. The worst knocking I ever had was due to plug #2 being pushed up in the hole. The wire was visibly moving with each explosion, and you could feel air pushing out.

If the plugs are good, then do a compression test.

If the compression test is good, then there are 2 likely explanations:
Something is about to give on the connecting rods... or... You're just hearing normal Honda engine chatter. Valve noise is common our engines, especially when you need an adjustment.
Adjust your valves properly. If it's the bottom end that's going to give, the only way to fix that is to tear the motor apart... You're better off just crossing your fingers and hoping that's not the case. Get AAA if it does go... and prepare to replace it. Your car looks to nice to junk it if the motor blows!

mine just burned a valve tonight coming home from my mom's cousin's wake.

          oh joy of joys !

from my experience a high pitched light tapping sound is valvetrain related,a low pitched heavy sound is rods/block

remember thats from my experiences and i'm 42 Y.O. and been under hoods since age 9

thanks alot man, ill deff check whats good with my spark plugs 2morrow . as for the valves does any1 know how much a valve adjustment is on the f22's from a dealer or would there be a cheaper place to take it to get done? im not that good to adjust them myself.

i hope its not from the block otherwise goodbuy engine ahah.

but thanks i put a lot of time in my car, a little bit too much i dont even pay as much attention to college then i do my car but i love it so much.

thanks i kno its not a heavy rod knock or anything because i know what that sounds like its just a light tick tick tick sound but i got to inspect it closer tomorrow and hope its from the head.

what did your car do when you burn your valve tonight? how did you know its your valves?

and im only 18 and ive been with cars all my life so far, i use to race quarter midgets and i started when i was 5. i deff will still be under a hood when im your age ahah

If it's more of a ticking sound, it's very likely the valves. They do that. An adjustment will correct it some, as will changing the weight of the oil you use, to some extent. It's probably nothing serious if it's just ticking.

it did it back in Feb of this year and I was on the highway cruising at 65 when the engine started shaking and losing power. I also heard a tick noise in the exhaust. today was almost the exact same thing except I was doing 50

If it was in the exhaust, it sounds like detonation. Pull your spark plugs and check for a speckled appearance on the ceramic tip.

i'm dropping it off at the guy who is doing the H22 turbo that i posted a pic of, i'm a touch busy this week but I will ask him for the old plugs if he puts new ones in.

I use 10W40, my personal preference.

It depends. I wouldn't stray too far from the factory's recommendation... but you might want to play with different oils. If anything, try a synthetic, or a blend...
