ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    cv axle question

okay so, i know my CV axle boot is torn because its squeeking hella bad when i turn and so awhile back i got it greased and they said i need a new boot that the CV axle boot is torn, but my dad has told me i cant just replace the boot that i need a whole new CV axle. but my buddy says i can just replace the boot?

any idea if i can just replace the boot and where i can get it if so?

You should be able to get a replacement boot at any chain parts store, or online. (It's usually just a split boot with a tongue and groove seam and a couple of hose clamps. They come with some sealant for the seam and are pretty easy to use. I've never heard a cv shaft squeal though. The usually click and eventually clunk.

go to Autozone or Pep Boys and ask if they have the "dorman" brand replacement split axle boot for your car

        Dorman # 614-632 $14.99

When you say "once he greased it, the squeek went away" are you sure the axle itself isn't wore out and makin noise? Sounds strange to me. I have a lower BJ boot thats torn. The BJ isn't loose by any means but because its exposed to the elements it makes squeeling sounds when I turn then all I do is give it a shot of lube and it's fine for a few weeks. BTW I have a new lower BJ but havent the time to replace it. I know, I know.

Usually the rule of thumb is if it made noise replace it.

            Noise=no lube=metal to metal=wear=replace
            wat?

I just replaced my inner boot from the passenger axle. It's a tad messy but worth the savings of getting a whole axle.

Yep, if you drove it to the point of where it was making noise with a torn boot, that means you ran it completly dry of any kind of lube. If it were me, Id replace the whole axle.

I just replaced both axles on my wife's Del Sol because the boots were torn and they were "clacking". Cost $135 for both axles and a day's work (half of that time was spent driving all over town finding tools).

                          it can affect it

                          hmmmm, you might want to

replace both axles, both wheel bearings AND lower ball joints at the same time

and only need 1 wheel alignment

I would change the axle that is bad. Its better than the boot replacement.
