ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Calling all F22 experts

Hey ive bin doing my research on the F22b1 head. Everyone says it pretty much flows horribly and even though its a vtec its not really an upgrade the f22a. Is there a way to change this? A port job or anything to make it flow better? I have an F22b1 laying around and my F22a1 isnt getting any younger. Im thinking about doing a swap soon. Please shed some light

not an expert, but any ported B1 head will definitely be a +++!

the vtec for this motor is more for economy purposes and not power.

The port design is crap. The ports are restrictive due to the design of the VTEC system. No port job will make it flow better than an F22A head with equal work. The valve angle also sucks. The VTEC system is also on the intake side only... it's not really very similar to the more performance oriented VTEC found in the DOHC motors.

The F22A has a near ideal valve angle, and the head flows VERY well. I've heard reports from more than one head porter saying that it flows as well as, possibly better than, a B18C5 head (ITR).

If you want to do a project, do it to the F22A. Putting any money into the F22B1 head is a waste.

The F22A has a better flowing head, and better valve geometery, and ...?

The f22b1 may have vtec, but its only on the exhaust side which was designed for fuel economy not performance.

Best thing to do would be to take the f22b1 bottom end and swap your f22a1 (from what i've heard, the blocks are pretty much the same)

Just take the opportunity while you have the f22a1 head off to get some work done to it, either p&p, or upgraded valve-train.

my f22a1 head has a whole lot of miles on it. i was hoping to add some life to the car with the younger head. for the sake of drivability is the f22b1 any good? i guess i just didnt want to do the classic h22 swap that everyone is doing. is it possible to switch the head without taking the whole engine out?

For less then $500 counting machine shop labor for resurface/mill & 3-angle valve job, you can totally refurbish your f22ax head, new valves, seats, springs, retainers. Thats what I'm having done to my f22ax head in the next couple days, upgrading the springs while i'm at. The real reason to yank the head off is the headgasket is weak and i'm getting exhaust gasses building up in my cooling system, since its coming off, I just couldn't slap it back on without doing anything to it.

So the shitty flowing head can have more air thrown at it?

It's like putting a pair of Air Jordans on a cripple.

I just laughed, so very hard...

Seriously though, finding an F22A with fewer miles shouldn't be that hard if you are legitimately worried about your engine's mileage. Get one in good running order from a junkyard, swap it in, and rebuild (or have rebuilt) the engine you pulled out.

Besides, as long as you keep fluids in your F22a, it'll probably last you a long time even if it's worn. Sell the F22B1 to some guy with a 5th gen.

Are the blocks really the same? I thought some modification had to be done...

Why do you need an H22 block for that? The H22 isn't made to rev to 9000 either! If you're going to put that much money into the F22 head, put the money out to build the F22 block to rev as high as your head needs to make power.
