ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Header Head Shield Removal - Safe?

I want to take it off I know a bunch of people in a bunch of cars including CB7's have it off, but I've heard it some cars the heat from the headers at idle can burn parts nearby over time. Is that true?

Take it off, keep it on, it really doesn't make a BIG difference in terms of under hood temps.

My personal preference, if you have the stock exhaust manifold, keep it on.

I'm sure it could happen, but on a CB it's no big deal. Removing it wouldn't hurt anything.

Why do you want to take it off?

Doesn't really matter if you keep it or take it off. I don't know if you are going to like looking at the ugly stock manifold though. If you care enough to take it off to improve the look of the engine bay then save some money and by some headers. Other then that its not a big deal and shouldn't be anything close enough to it that can burn or melt. Double check though to make sure nothing can touch or come close.

The reason that the heatsheild is primarily there is not really to lower under hood temps, its more of a deflector to keep heat off the alternator and power steering pump. Keep it on or your alternator might decide to take a dump on you sooner then later.

So what about all those cars you see with the aftermarket headers? Would the heat from them affect the surrounding parts? I want to be able to see my headers and clean them (from the outside for looks).

The heat still affects the surrounding parts, thats why alot of people use headerwrap, which helps with performance by retaining heat and helping with the scavenging effect, also depending upon construction of the actual header, headerwrap can cause premature failure of welds from my understanding.

The bisimoto header I am buying is stainless steel, and I opted for the ceramic coating (which is a coating that gives the effect of headerwrap, while giving it a shiney look, and it also protects the welds for people who opt to add headerwrap to it later)

So if you really want to remove the heatshield, while being able to see & clean whatever header you use, then I'd suggest getting it ceramic coated albeit being more expensive then headerwrap.

just order some generic ebay headers for $50 shipped and call it a day

the'll last probably as long as you'll own your cb7 and won't waste $10-$20 dollars on high heat paint and you can have REAL Headers..(well ebay brand lol)

no heatshield on cb7s looks ugly as hell to me.. just paint the heatshield instead if u don't want headers

I'll just leave it on until I decide what to do, n/a DC, Megan or the Bisi header, or turbo path. So many options haha. It's my DD so I'll need it running well.

IMO, painting the heatshield looks stupid. Well let me correct myself, if I had seen a heat shield that was painted nice (design, pattern, etc) and not one that was all one flat color maybe look ok.
For years I had it off with the F-engine, and had no issues. With the H-engine I have it on. I don't have A/C, but one would think the heat would affect the A/C pipe that runs infront of manifold pipes and thus your A/C would benifit if you kept it on.
