ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    1990 Accord LX oil capacity.

    Hello guys,
I know the crank case capacity is 4Qt. but today I forgot when changing the oil and I put in a little less than 4.5Qt. As I start pouring the old oil back into the bottles I notice it only fill up 4Qt. Thus I went to check the manual and it was 4Qt.
So if I put in a little more than 4Qt and little less than 4.5Qt, will this hurt my engine?
I checked the dip stick after running to normal driving temperature and the level is at the top 2nd dot.

    Thanks,

You should be fine, but be forewarned adding too much oil can be bad, too much oil can cause the oil to froth when the crank spins, which will can lower the lubricating properties of your oil, thus increasing wear to your motor.

Frothy oil doesn't lubricate crank bearings and wristpins all that well, just to name a couple examples.

An extra half a quart you will be fine. Chances are it will burn it away and just save you time inbetween oil changes

I remember when my brother got his coupe. he thought you were suspsoed to fill it up untill you could see oil in the valve cover LOL.

As stated before, the only concern with adding too much oil is if the level gets high enough that the crankshaft etc starts to froth it up. 1/2 quart overfull is not enough oil to do that, except maybe if you're on a racetrack and cornering and braking hard continuously and there's no horizontal oil baffle shield to stop the oil from sloshing from one side to the other, and from back to front (when braking) of the pan. My car doesn't have an oil baffle shield but the Helm manual I use shows one, so maybe some models have it.

Graham Bell in his book Four Stroke Performance Tuning says that for this reason on some cars it's necessary to run well below the full dipstick level, perhaps halfway between the add oil level and the full level (on a track, not the highway) to avoid the oil frothing effect.

Daily driving is not going to create such a problem though.
