    Few question on F22b1 performance.

First off want to know whats a healthy f22b1 compression supposed to be im guessing 140min and 190s max psi?

    2nd whats stock f22b1 makes on a dyno?at/mt

3rd whats all inter change able for a few helpful hp?Manifolds etc.

4th im thinking about parking this bish for the winter.Getting a stage one bisi cam,cam gear,P&P head, and a header.Would this be worth the while? She seems to be lacking u top probly due to the automagic trans.Any other helpful info you can throw at me please feel free.Ive had good luck out of bisi on the mildy built b7 i did... just wanting to know how those with these type setups do and so on.

A descriptive thread title would greatly help people that know the answers to your questions find your thread. It will also help people with similar issues find your thread.

Why does everyone think titles like "a few questions" and "help me" are going to get attention? Tell us what is wrong, so we know what we're getting into. Then we'll help you.

The f22b1 is a fuel economy based engine. Not worth trying to build. you'll notice a surprising lack of aftermarket performance parts available for it.

No idea what compression psi should be, your numbers could be close, but each cylinder should be close to the other ones, more than 5-8 lbs variance either way is an indication of a problem.

Stock crank hp was about 150. You can figure about 120 for the auto, maybe 135 for the manual.

No idea on interchangeability, refer to my first comment for most likely reason.

I can't find a cam for the f22b1 on Bisi's site, only the non-VTEC series cams.

My advice would be to look at a different engine to build. If you're stuck with this one, Then the basic IHE, PNP and maybe a good tune is about the most I'd put into it.

I will tell you that I have raced a guy with the f22b1 with IHE, 5 speed, short shifter (That's all I could see when we compared cars after) vs. my f22a1 IHE, 5 speed, and a stage one cam, when I was still running the pt3 ECU (as opposed to the p12 I run now) and he almost managed to stick right with me.

Well i kinda like being the under dog makes it worth my while to open it up a bit.Ik stock fly wheel power is 145hp&147tq.Ik for a fact bisi makes a b1 cam i was qouted $320 b4 core i think by TDC on ch we had a lil thread about it.And from what i gather the heads the only crapy part if i can get the cfm's to flowing on a bench its bound to help alot.Other opinions or helpful info would be great throw it my way.But the b1 is staying lol.

You're not going to prove anything new... you're just going to put a lot of money into modifying an engine that has a poor valve angle, crowded port design, and very little potential for worthwhile performance. It's not that the engine hasn't been explored... it has, extensively, by people that know a whole lot about it... it is a very poor choice for NA performance.

HAHA im not out to prove anything if i was id be building another fox or fbody.Just a lil more umphhhhh.P&P and a 3 angle valve job wouldnt be the expensive part to me i have some connections in that part.Probly the most costly thing would be the cam.All the work would be done by me this winter. So looking at a lil under 500bux in all and safe hp gains at that.Positive input isnt coming my way i can tell alrdy just like my B7 build i did a year or so ago.But i did it anyway and when i did ppl enjoyed the build thread and craftsman ship that went into it.F22b1 seems to be a perfect platform for improvements to me.

I think what they are trying to say is putting money into the f22b1 is not the greatest idea simply because it doesn't has as much potential as similar motors.

If you want sohc peformance, get an f22a6 and do exactly the same things to it as you want to do to the b1. It's pretty much a guarantee that you make more power for the same money with the a series simply because it has been proven over and over. You mentioned that the b1 head doesn't flow very well, this is one big reason that the b1 isn't a good motor. Like deevergote said, the b1 has a poor valve angle angle and the ports aren't in good spots. Even with a pnp and valve job you will see poor results. The f22a head is said to be one of the best flowing heads that Honda makes.

Nobody here is out to tell you your idea is bad. You asked if we thought doing these mods to the b1 was a good idea. They said no and backed their reasons up. It has been proven that the f22b1 is not a good platform to modify and put money into.

If you want to modify the b1, go for it! But don't ask for an opinion and get upset when its not what you wanted to hear.

$320.00 for a cam on a crappy head design, for a maybe 5hp gain

That $320 cam will still get him (according to Bisi) the same 10-15% gain that the F22A* gets. So I guess all you F22A* CB7 guys with Bisi level 1 & 32 cams would be in the same boat.

I agree that the B1 isn't the best choice for an N/A build. If he want's to make due with what he has, it's his choice. That's what I went with. At least he's starting from here and not wanting to swap the B1 onto his F22A* like a lot of CB guys want to do for some reason.

That's why I'm so used to telling people how bad the B1 is... because every noob wants that badass VTEC yo!

                        Ok, to answer your questions:

Healthy compression, yes, that range is alright. As long as all cylinders are similar to each other.

Interchangable parts... really just the F23A1 intake manifold... and then any H or F series transmission.

Dyno numbers... the F22B1 makes 145hp at the crank. Put that to the wheels minus about 18%, give or take. You don't need to be too accurate, because the F22B1 is 13 years old at best. None of them are going to be making 100% of their expected power anyway.

Can you still get gains? Sure. Will it be worth it... that's up to you. However, since you haven't spent any money yet, anyone who suggests abandonng the F22B1 for NA performance is only looking out for your best interest. It IS possible to polish a turd... but in the end, you're just left with a shiny turd.

LOL to EjX bud im by far not getting mad.I see no point in wasting a good engine though and ive did my fair share of swaps this year and really isnt apealing to me at this moment.Time to turn a few wrenches for myself. And no one has proven anything to me that this is a shity idea to modify i have yet to see any numbers out of a set up simular to the one im going after. And im not going to jump on the....hey its a pos band wagon with no proof or with anyone that hasnt done it by them self yet.Yes ive seen the ports of an A1 compared to a b1 and its plan and simple needs p&p so bad but that can be fixed for cheaper than swaping engines. Thanks for your input tho!

Ghost thats what i thought about the cam lol guess we was wrong? And i like the fact that why not make due with what youve got.If its healthy,no knocks ticks or smoke i think its good to stay and why not make the best out of it.And that mad Vtakkk is crazy yo!not really but its what ive got so id like to see what a mild b1 could do.I built an a1 back in high school for our senior project.Full rebuilt bottom end,p&p head 3 angle valve grind, delta 272 regrind, and bolt ons.It ran extremly well and that was when fseries parts was like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. So it was the under dog and my first build ever for honda. But thanks for seeing it my way just a lil!

deevergote thanks for the info didnt think i was to far off.And polishing a turd is ok in my book its a honda to begin with not a veron.I like to make due with what ive got it might not be the best choice out there but i dont think its the worst when the engines real healthy and theres not a hick up in the engine its self. Thanks tho bud!

Thank ya'll for ya'lls input good or bad ima take it for what its worth.

The information regarding the F22B1's lack of performance potential in comparison to the F22A came from Bisi himself. I'd say that's a pretty reliable source. If you want to spend your time and money arriving at the same conclusion, by all means, feel free. Nobody will think any less of you, and it's certainly good to see what you can do with a given powerplant... but it's ONLY a good idea if you are curious to see what you can do with that particular engine, as there are better choices for more power. Choices that are just as affordable and easy to install.

Not really affordable what would be the point in spending lets say atleast 350 on a a6 or a1 swap there goes most of the money anyway. So f22b1 it is no where did i say omg i want to be the fastest i said id like to see what a b1 could do.So i will if everything goes right she will get a make over this winter and i will get numbers up asap.
