I have a 1993 Honda Accord EX. The engine code on the side says f22a6. It is a DOHC engine. I was just wondering if it was a VTEC engine or not? I search online and seem to find no exact answers...and I can't trust wikipedia lol

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Wondering if my engine is VTEC or non-vtec?

it should be a stock sohc engine unless you bought the car with a swap. if its have vtec it should say vtec on top of the valve cover. if the the bottom block have a code saying f22a6 then you have the stock sohc non vtec engine. or take a picture of your engine and it'll be easier to tell you what engine you have.

Felony, post a picture of your engine.
The F22B DOHC head is an easy swap, and has been done quite a few times. He's in CA... lots of stuff going on over there. Either we assume he can't identify a DOHC engine, or we assume a headswap was done. Either way, we're making assumptions that may or may not be true. If he sees a DOHC head on an F22A6 block, I could see where confusion would occur.
In all honest, MOST of the information on Wikipedia regarding the CB and it's various engines is correct. The only information that isn't correct that I'm aware of is the compression ratio of various non-US model F series engines.

Unless you have a Frankenstein head swap, it's probably just the stock 16 valve single cam. But, don't feel bad for asking...When I bought my Accord back in 2000 I basically asked the same questions to a friend of mine. We all have to start somewhere, and you only learn by asking.Last edited by wherm; 01-04-2011, 11:43 PM.
