ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    white smoke

So after a 30 minute drive, I finally reached home. As i was parking, thats when my thermostat gradually went up. I just recently changed the head gasket last week. I checked my oil and coolant; they were good. After a few minutes of driving, my idle would always drop from 1000 to like 300. I started my car again and there was a whole lot of white smoke coming out from my exhaust. It only came out when my car was still pretty hot. After about 15 minutes, I started it again and not much smoke. Within the next hour, no smoke. I found that i was leaking oil from my valve cover gasket and valve lash was ticking loud. I already adjusted the valve lash. Any of these the reason why my car's thermostat gradually went up or caused the white smoke? If not and its something else, please help me.

What Was The Reason You Changes The Head Gasket?
When You Changed The Head Gasket Did You Change The Thermostat, Sensor?
Did You Have The Head Checked For Warpage?

Are you sure it's 300? That first line represent 500 rpms. There's no way (short of external equipment) to measure an idle that low.

I think you might be about to gain some more experience in head gasket replacement. It might have been a freak occurence, but somehow, you got water in your exhaust if it was truly white smoke.

I changed the head gasket because it was blown. I had coolant and oil together. I did not change the sensor but my sensor is still working fine. I only had smoke after a 30-40 minute drive from school to home with slight traffic.

                  general rule of thumb:

thick white smoke = piston rings. but it will do this all the time, not just cold/hot

light white smoke (also known as cold smoke) = condensation. engine is normal

blue smoke = oil being burnt through the combustion chamber.

black smoke = timing is incorrect. cheap 87 gas and timing too advanced.

                  The past, to present.

did you check the head for warpage when you had it off? because if the head is warped the gasket wont be able to make up for the differance and make the engine smoke

just found out that my new head gasket is leaking. did not check for warpage. and i did torque the head down to torque specs and sequence.

could steel seal or some kind of liquid that we pour in the radiator help stop the leak?

Have The Head Checked For Warpage, If Warped Machine The Surface, New Gasket, And Torque To Specs In Sequence.

and you made sure you installed the HG correctly? There's this one oil pressure hole in the back that you need to set the HG on, if you flipped it then that could be why its leaking oil and sending coolant into the wrong passages.
