So im thinkin about throwin a v-tec head on my 91 ex but not sure what all I need. Got a v-tec controller so I don't need ecu or wiring harness. Just need to know which head gasket to use and the other specifics.

Any help would b greatly appreciated.

Why are you looking to put a Vtec head on your f22? The f22aX head has lots of potential.

what kind of vtec head are you wanting? if it is the f22b vtec head, its pretty much trash for a performance part. if it is the h22 head, they are better, but still doesnt flow as well as the f22ax head. instead of spending the money on the head swap, put it into a good bisimoto cam, header, an h23 intake manifold, etc and make the f22 live up to its potential.

edit: just saw you got the head free.

            Good advice man

OP - If you want ANY relevant advice you at LEAST need to give some infomation.

For all we know you have a swapped ZC 1600 engine and want to put a K24 Vtec head on it.

What engine do you have? What Head are you trying to swap?
Why do you want to swap? Have you explored other potentials?

The answers to those questions would be a GREAT start to anyone being able to help you

it bolts right on the stock f22a head, and is from the 1992-96 prelude si. you dont have to change any sensors, but there is a black box you'll need that bolts to the bottom of the manifold keep the secondary butterflies functional. there are a couple DIY threads that you'll need to search for to get more info on that.

when you do the manifold swap, i highly recommended using a bisimoto intake manifold gasket. it is a heat barrier between the head and manifold and lowers the running intake temperature by quite a bit. check out the sponsors section to find those.

The F22B1 head has less performance potential than the F22A head that you'll be replacing with it.

You need the proper ECU... a VTEC controller won't cut it. All a VTEC controller does is tell the ECU to change the VTEC crossover point (and they do not work on the F22B1.) I assume that you do not understand how VTEC works. It changes the valve timing (in the case of the F22B1, on the intake valves only...), which requires a change in the fuel map. A non-VTEC ECU is not programmed for this.

There's nothing to be gained from the swap. Sell the free head on ebay and use the money to mod the F22A, or put towards a worthwhile swap (H22A, H23A, F22B DOHC, F20B)

The "aggressive" profile of the f22b vtec cam is similar to the F22a6 cam with the non aggressive (out of vtec) profile designed for low rpm efficiency and gas mileage.

You will not gain any top-end performance from the f22b head and a straight h22 swap will be easier and more reliable.

Deever u shouldn't assume so quickly cause it makes u sound like a dick when u say Tht. I have had around 15 diff civics w vtec from single to dual cams and two had vtec controllers w no vtec ecu and it worked just fine. Im new to the f series so was asking for friendly help and the way u put things makes it sound like ur undermining me. W Tht said thanks for the advice.

It's sad that you've had 15 vtec motors yet still don't know how to spell "vtec" nor understand how to properly control the vtec system.

This is a helpful tip to you: You will get much more respect and genuine feedback around here if you:

                            1. Search before posting.
                            2. Use complete words.....what does "W" and "Tht" mean?
