ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Building up F22a4

Ok so I'm a little new to modding and most of what I want to do is not going to happen for a long time but I realize I need information about this before I just start replacing parts and adding turbo's etc...

    what I want: 600whp '90 Accord ^_^

I know this is going to take a LOT of wrench time and a LOT of money but what I'm really interested in is where to start because I've been reading on here a lot and it seems like everyone starts in different places, but my situation in almost every case is so diverse... some people start building up bottom end, some people build up top end and leave bottom end stock...

practically no one sets a goal of 600whp for this motor except for one guy I've heard a lot about and he's driving a different car (bisimoto)

my plan: I don't intend on leaving anything stock because I'm pretty sure with that much whp the 20 year old car is going to fall apart lol so just for the sake of awesomeness lets just say I need to know where to start this amazing adventure but keep the car driveable at the same time.

the problem: my car unfortunately is automatic... I've always wanted a manual transmission and I need advice on a good tranny/clutch/flywheel. Of course this will be one of the last things I do because I know I have to be putting out a lot more than 130whp to put a performance oriented tranny/clutch/flywheel... CONFUSION! >,<

any advice will be wonderful! I'm super excited about this project because NO ONE drives high performance cb7's where I live and I know with a lot of sweat and wrench time I can totally beat those posers drivin SRT-4's (no offense to anyone driving those...)

Really if I were you, I'd keep that car as a DD and find another one where it is already a 5 spd. To convert to a 5spd is pretty expensive unless you already have a parts car.

I did the conversion and it cost just about twice what I originally paid for the car. The conversion mounts were 284, tranny was 40 bucks, clutch kit with fw was another 250. Then you need the lines, driver side axle, clutch and brake pedal, a cmc, slave cylinder.... All those parts really add up if you go to a pick and pull to get them.

When you say you want a ton o horsepower, are you going n/a or forced induction?

He's going to have to go Forced induction. Bisi's N/A only makes 425ish hp.
That being said, use a lot of Bisi parts for your build.
Instead of swapping to a 5 speed, you might want to consider a custom trans.
If you do (either) make sure you get LSD.

Idk where to start with a trans tho lol money shouldnt be an issue because I'm not really in any rush to do this its just a fantasy at this point but I'm just curious of what should be done first so I can start stockpiling parts... the will is here and the money is on the way lol nursing school pay will pay out in a year or so ^_^ but anyways LSD? I don't think I've heard of that... but I suppose I could research thanks for the quick response guys I'll appreciate any extra things you all turn up and yes forced induction is what I'm looking at... I like turbonetics and plan on using something big ^_^

For a guy that seems to know next to nothing about his car, you sure have lofty goals... That means you have a LONG way to go before you should even buy a single part.

          My advice:
First, read everything you can. A good starter book would be Honda/Acura Engine Performance by Mike Kojima. It's a very easy read, and gives a LOT of very useful information. Some of it is outdated, but it will provide you with a strong basic understanding of what you need to do. It will be a MUCH better foundation for your goal than the advice of people on the internet (who may or may not know what they're talking about... and without knowing anything yourself, you won't know the difference!)

Next, research specific parts as you learn about what you need. Research on this site, manufacturers' sites, and any other site you can find. If you don't understand the function of a part, look it up. If you don't understand how different parts interact, look it up. If you show a bit of understanding, and you show that you're actively trying to learn, the most knowledgeable members of forums will be more than happy to help (otherwise, saying "I don't know anything so can someone tell me everything I need to know" will quickly get you ignored and/or ridiculed.)

As for a transmission... there is no "best" transmission, nor is there a "best" clutch or flywheel. You need to get what is best suited to your application... which you don't even know yet. I would start by researching the auto to manual swap... which is well documented on this site already.

We have a few members in the 500-600+_hp range. Go into the Forced Induction section and look at the list of the most powerful cars on this site. Then look to see what those members did to achieve those numbers.

To be quite honest... 600+whp in a FWD car is pretty much useless. You'll have a hard time getting traction, and you'll hate driving the car regularly. Sure, bragging rights are great, but what fun is a car that you can't use? That's like bragging about having a dick that's 20" long and 4" thick. Bragging rights for sure, but there won't be much you can do with it!

That's your first post? I'd suggest being a little more polite, or at least giving some useful information while you give your insults... or your next post will be your last.

                Limited Slip Differential = LSD

Go try to do a burnout without one. It's a one wheeled burnout.

With LSD (and assuming you have enough power) you will have a 2 wheeled burnout.

You can also power through snow like a boss, at least with an E30.

Using the old saving up money trick eh?
Think of this, you will blow up your first motor, and ruin most of your parts.

Your subsequent motors (if you go turbo) will also blow up. It is an eventuality.

Keep that in mind while planning your build.

Or, If you save up your money, all the while plan the build correctly, You won't have to blow up any motors. With good quality parts that work in conjunction with each other, properly measured clearances and a good tune. You can do it right the first time.

18-20 years have gone by now and there have been enough cheap ass ritards who have blown up 3-4 engines doing it the wrong way. You should be able to learn from them and do it right the first time.

However, If you want 600 hp it is going to cost you big time. Getting that high in Hp it is hard to keep things together. BigdaddyVTEC (extralargenog) would be the guy to look for. He's riding in an Accord w/89mm H22. He has blown a few F22 motors up just pissing around for fun. Now he has his sleeved H22 engine putting out 600+ hp to the ground. I think he was having trouble with axles and transmissions. He was working on getting some custom gears cut last I heard.

sorry if I come off sounding like I know absolutely nothing... truth is I know a lot about some things and I have ideas about some things but what I'm asking for help on is exactly what I posted... I know about exausts, turbos, pistons, heads, gaskets... I know some of what I'm talking about I just didnt want to come off as an ass saying oh I know everything heres what I'm going to build...

so that said... I just don't know much about transmissions thank you all for the help, I know the biggest problem is going to be getting all that horsepower to the road.

I also mentioned I have been doing research but most of the people on here and other sites are using different applications or going for a different hp goal (i.e. h22 or stopping at 350whp) I'm not totally incompetent I just need a little direction I really know nothing about transmissions and thats what I was hoping for some help with I've been looking for a good book about tranny's but none of the ones I've found seem to deal with modifying my car to handle more whp thats my biggest problem... and I've heard a great deal of dogtooth gears and lightweight flywheels pros and cons so could you all see where I might need some help? there is a lot of information out there but not a lot of it goes together and everyone has a different opinion about how the setup should be...

I'm not going to just buy a lot of parts and slap em in there... I like to think I'm not stupid in that department I just wanted some good ol fashioned advice on where I should start because I have a good idea on what parts I want to put in and what brands to use and what works well with this motor I just cant seem to put my finger down on where to start... any advice will be appreciated ^_^ thanks again guys.
