    Oil filter cooler delete?

There are 2 coolant lines going this thing and one them busted the other day so I went and replaced it. IDK if any of you have messed with it before but it isn't fun at all. In order to get to the line in question I had to remove the filter AND oil filter cooler to get to the damn hose clamp. Well, no autoparts store had the correct hose so I had to get something that looked the part and cut it to length and installed it. The next day it was leaking antifreeze AGAIN so I went through all the bullshit and got the correct hose from the JY (it was in good condition) and replaced it once again. So hear it is 2 days later and its leaking AGAIN! Its very slow drip but I can hear it sizzling and smell it burning on the exhaust when the car is hot.

So my question is, can I just delete or bypass this damn thing? I've noticed that this cooler is only on the A6 and none of the other engines have it, so is deleting or bypassing it going to cause any problems? Is this even feasible? Thanks.

Just go get the black rear coolant tube and the oil filter threaded piece from a f22a1 or f22a6. You'd be better off just getting the hose from the dealer though

Well, I have an A6 already I'm not sure what you are saying. What is getting the threaded piece going to do? And yes you are right, getting the hose from the dealer would be ideal but the one I got from the JY was still good.

So is this cooler even really needed? Like I said, LX's and DX's don't have it so couldn't I just connect the 2 hoses and bypass the cooler all together?

The h22 and h23s have it as well. And yes, you can get rid of it. Just loop the lines and you SHOULD be set. The stud that the filter goes on will need to be replaced, I THINK (been a while since I messed with the one on my old h22) otherwise, just thread it into the block, put the filter on and you should be good to go.

OK cool thats what I was trying to figure out. It seemed like it would work in my mind but I had to be sure. I will probably hit up the JY and take a look at a LX or DX and see how the shit is setup on that engine. I can probably just pull any necessary pieces and connect the lines like you said.

I am wondering if I could just bypass it by connecting the lines and just leave the cooler as is. I mean, just leave it on the car and cap off the 2 lines coming out of it?

There is a black tube across the back of the engine that goes from the thermostat housing to the water pump

f22a1/4's don't have the two extra outlets on them for the oil cooler. You could just block off the holes on yours or just replace the whole tube with one that just doesn't have them. There is no need to loop any lines.

On cars without the oil cooler the oil filter bolts straight to the block, the piece it threads onto has a hex bolt at the bottom to remove it. The one that comes on cars with an oil cooler is longer to accommodate for the oil cooler. If you removed the oil cooler you would need to get the shorter one.

Sounds like your oil cooler may be bad, have you thought about replacing it with another junkyard unit?

Can you take any pictures of where its leaking exactly?

Well, if you click the link here there is a diagram, I had to replace #13
                http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...ght=oil+cooler
When I removed the hose there was a split in it, which of course caused coolant to pour all over the place. I then replaced it with a makeshift hose which I believe may have been kinked or something because it only held for half a day or so before coolant was again leaking all over. I then got a proper hose from the JY and again replaced it, now its leaking but its a small drip not even enough to make a puddle on the ground. It'll drip directly on the exhaust and burn up.

I'm not sure WTF is wrong, I don't know if I didn't secure the hose good enough or what but messing with it is getting old really fast. Considering I have to remove both the oil filter and the cooler sucks ass.

What are the symptoms of a the cooler going bad?

Right on, Brony. I think I will just do that and be done with it.

are you using the original hose clamp or a new screw type hose clamp

if it is still the original it might not be holding the tube tight enough

plus i think oil coolers only come on automatics b/c i have a 93 ex coupe 5 speed and a 93 ex wagon auto and the coupe does not have it and the wagon does
if it is not an auto thing then maybe coupes don't come with them

I see what you are saying there, Tipp. I hit up the JY and seen the long hose you were referring to that goes from the thermo to the water pump. Yeah the EX model has a line coming out of that hose into the cooler and another line coming from the block into the cooler. I've decided to just loop the line from the big hose to the line coming out of the block and bypass the cooler (I went this route because I wasn't sure if pressure might build up if I blocked them off). I thought about just replacing the entire hose with one off an LX but that seemed like too much work for now.

Yeah I replaced the old ass clamps with the screw type.
