Well yesterday will I was driving I was trying to pass some traffic. And the car hesitated to accelerate when it did. The CEL came on. When I stopped at home I could not get it into Reverse, no matter how hard I pulled on the shifter. Code were 6,7,14.

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Can't shift into Reverse

Code 6 Coolant Temperature Loose Wiring, Bad Sensor Check that plug is connected and wiring is not loose
Code 7 TPS (throttle position sensor) Loose Wiring, Bad Sensor Make sure sensor is plugged in and wiring is correct
Code 14 Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) Incorrect harness plug, Bad Sensor Check that correct sensor plug is connected, Replace Sensor
I dont think any of that will cause your car to not go into reverse but those codes definitely need to be resolved, check your plugs and wiring

I had similar problem with putting it into reverse, did not have CEL, but how I got the shifter in reverse position was to shift through all gears. I think a more permanant solution would be to grease the contact points of the shifter and where it sits.Be unique, like every other person.

Its a manual. Yes I already know about that drill and tap. I have a m2s4 right know but I'm having problems shifting into reverse, I'm unable to shift into reverse and I don't know why I found the reverse light switch wires dried out and snapped. But I don't know if that would be the problem. I drained the oil out of it and didn't notice any shavings or anything unusual. I'm at loss here guys NEED YOUR HELP.

The plug for reverse has nothing to do with it. Are the cables for the shifter on the tranny touching anything to keep it from shifting properly. Mine was hitting the radiator hose and wouldn't shift into first. Check that and check the cables in the car where they meet the shifter. Let me know what you find.

Nope nothing in the way. Everything looked normal underneath the boot. I can shift into any gear with no problem, it just won't go into reverse no matter how hard I pull. And there no grinding noises or anything. When you pull the shifter all it does is slow the engine down. It feels like its being blocked.

You probably wore on 4th, or perhaps even 2nd, gear ratio's synchronizer. I suspect the selector mechanism was somehow stuck, not allowing you to select reverse. Because the engine slowed down when you tried to shift, I assume you were not using the clutch at that point, and because you didn't hear grinding when it slowed, then you must not have reverse selected, and instead have 3rd/4th or 1st/2nd selected.Originally posted by solito_yo View PostNope nothing in the way. If you did have the clutch disengaged (clutch pedal depressed (as in down, on the floor)) and the engine was still slowing noticeably and coincidentally, then you've got a clutch hydraulic or mechanical issue that you should look in to.

Though, I have 50/50 mix of 10W30 and Synchromesh in my transmission......
From a phone conversation I had with a tech rep from Pennzoil, the producer of Synchromesh (don't know about GM brand), it is not recommended to use this product, Synchromesh, in our cars.
Just so you know.......A&P-IA
