ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

car wont started when engine is warm

hi ive got a 92 exr with a starting problem thats been happening ever since i bought it last summer. it wont start when its really hot out, the engine is warm and i shut the car off. it can take up to 30 mins to get started sometimes. i change the air filter, fuel filter, checked for spark, ran injector cleaner, cleaned the iac valve and cleaned the throttle body abit. Also sometimes if i turn the key off and back on while this is happening the d4 light will start to blink continuous short blinks until i turn the key off and back on a few times.

im pretty new at this so i dont know what else to do but i would like to learn if anyone could help tthanks

Check engine light on? Or just the d4?

Count the blinks, there reallywill be long ones ffirst if any then short, then it will repeat.

Or you could record it with a camera or smartphone and upload it and share it with us to see.

Commonly our cars wont start when its hot out due deffective soldering on the main relay, replacing that will fix it. It is also possible the main relay will fix the D4 light, though I found that when I had an issue with my TCU, hot weather made it act up. Could be the beginning of the end for the TCU(another common issue)

Also are you sure its in diagnostic mode when you check the codes? the constant blinking if the D4 light, is just how the TCU displays that there is a problem and needs service.

ok thanks i was doing some research on how to repair the main relay if i need to. so i guess my car was just indicating a problem with the tcu. i remember a mechanic pulled some codes out of the car awhile back and wrote them down for me.

            03 TPS open or short
07 SS A open or short
08 SS B open or short
14 FAS wire open or short

are any of these things i can possilbly fix or get fixed for a relatively cheap price? appreciate the help

I would open and inspect the TCU for burned components and swelled caps.

Those codes are not TCU codes. Reset your ECU and try and jumper the diag port and see if they re-appear after 30 minutes of driving and 3 restarts.

Also re-soldering the main relay takes 10 minutes and is cheap insurance.

On top of that the mechanic was wrong about what the codes correspond to. Don't go back to that mechanic.

              03 - MAP
              07 - TPS
              08 - TDC
              14 - IAC

Thanks wild bill for the advice on the main relay and inspecting the tcu. So are these codes I have here are for the ecu? Is what you have wrote down there the correct diagnosis of the codes? Thanks again and I'm not going back to that mechanic!

All codes, as well as the proper procedure for checking them, can be found in the thread at the top of this section marked "read here first".

Also, when inspecting the main relay, be sure you use a good magnifying glass. The cracked solder points can be invisible to the naked eye. Or just do what many others have done... and just resolder every point.
