ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

    Suspension Work Time Time Question

    I have a '90 LX Coupe
    It is my DD.

I need to change the axles, ball joints and bushings on the front end.
I have the axles, ball joints, and polyurethane master set.
I have proper tools, minus bearing press.

I was wondering if anyone would happen to know a time table to change all of these parts? If anyone had any tips/tricks to make this as smooth as possible?

Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated, Thank You.

Yes best way to do it is take the whole knuckle off take it to a machine shop have them press your wheel bearing out. And then put new rotors on while your at it and press the new wheel bearin back in. Then put the upper control arms on while they are doing that and inner and outer tie rods and axles. And have them press your lower bj's out and in for you as well. Then go pick up the knuckles throw them on and if the machine shop is fast and can keep up with you I would say 2 to 3 hours worth of work maybe faster. I have a press and I do mine in about 30 minutes a side when I did them but I have pulled apart my suspension a million times now

Just remember to be patient and not rush stuff that's where most mess up . also well you're down there it would be a grate time to inspect you're shock's and spring's / sway bar and other stuff .

Lol. I actually just changed brakes and rotors, I did this. Also had to have struts replaced, shop did this. I did not have the shop do the other stuff due to cost.

Doing the suspension is not cheap . just remember you get what you pay for and take you're time to do right the first time. If you rush it you can mess it up and make you're car a real safety hazer . deev knows all about this kinda stuff . Him and few members helped me with my first time . it's not hard but requires patients .

for the bushings, you can burn/drill out the old ones, then grease the new ones and make a press tool out of a long bolt that fits through the middle of the bushing, a nut, and a handful of large washers. Use an impact on the head of the bolt to make it go quicker.

Maybe I missed something, why are you telling him to take the knuckles to the machine shop and have the bearings pressed out? He never said he was touching them, doesn't make any sense.

OP, when I repacked my axles, replaced UBJs and LBJs, replaced my UCAs, tensioner, outter tie rods, radius rod bushings, and all dust boots, it took me 8 hours.

That prothane set will take you at least a weekend.

Make sure you have replacement bolts for the rear lower control arms.
I don't remember if it's the front or rear, but one has a cammed head, and it's seized in there.
You will need to cut it out.

                      For bushings:
Drill a hole in the rubber. Put the blade from a sawzall in there and cut until there is no more rubber.
Once you've done that, use your sawzall to cut a notch in the metal sleeve.
Use a screwdriver and a hammer to bang the metal sleeve out, and you're ready for the new bushings.

I used a press for the new ones.

Mine took me two weeks, but that wasn't constant work, and I had to wait for the bolts to come in.

I would recomend wheel bearings. Unless you notch your lower ball joint you will have to loosen and tap the bearing out of the way,not all the way out but clear of the lower ball joint. I would give yourself a day per corner and you don't need anything but a hammer sockets and something to cut with like a dremmel, hack saw, jigsaw. Any one of those and lots of research. I will answer any questions but simply writing every tip/trick to removing ball joints, bushings and all that with no press would take a thousand words, the whole process is covered in a few threads though.
Edit* dj ender please tell me what a tensioner is. I've been thinking for five minutes and can't figure out what you mean.

                            It all makes sense now.
To the op there is a you tube video of a guy doing cv joints. I think it was a 95 accord. His ball joint separation methods are the best way to do it, if you are trying to save the joint. For example if you don't get it all done the first day and have to separate new joints. If you are replacing the joint anyhow the fastest way is a tie rod separator fork.
