ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Injen Cold Air Intake installation question

I plan on purchasing the Injen C.A.R.B. approved (since I live in California ) cold air intake made for the CB7.

I checked the manual online, and it mentions that the hole may have to be enlarged. Has anyone installed this intake and needed to enlarge the hole in the frame to make the tube fit?

    Thanks for the help.

Got my question answered by searching other threads. Yes, you do have to cut into the frame to make the pipe fit. The hole has to be 3" by 4" and you do not have to relocate the battery, in case anyone else was wondering. Deevergote tells all about the troubles with the rust that only gets worse with time after installing one of these.

Seems like staying with a SRI and replacing the cone filter with a high end APEXi is the way to go.

Apexi, AEM or K&N filters are your best bet.

The advice that stuck with me when I was searching to make my decision was get one based on climate, Short ram if you live in a wet climate and there are puddles everywhere and CAI if you live in the desert or warm climate.

If you go SRI eBay pipe with a better filter is the way to go unless you need the carb sticker.

Thanks for the info. I live in CA, and so it is wet and I do need the CARB approval. For the last few hours I have been searching through these forums. Most people go with the AEM SRI with the AEM filter. I don't particularly like their filter design (no 2nd funnel like the Apexi has), and so I am going with the Weapon R Secret. Their SRIs have the EO# and they come with a velocity stack of sorts (they call it an air ram) that shrinks and stretches like an accordion. I'll probably just attach the end of it to the opening of the frame that the CAIs would go through. Anywhere else would defeat the purpose of going SRI over CAI.

        Thanks again.

To be quite honest, the performance benefits of a CAI are VERY slight compared to an SRI. People will say you're "sucking hot engine bay air" with the SRI, but that air is constantly moving when you're in motion. You're only sucking hot air when you're sitting at idle... and horsepower means little when you're not moving!

I installed an AEM CAI when I first did my H22A swap. I regret it. The rusty hole in my engine bay is something I'll never fix, short of actually cutting out a large piece of metal and welding in a new one.

Yes yes, the SRIs on the market that I've come across, with the exception of the APEXi Power intake for the prelude, have piping that put the filter right behind the stock battery position, so you can get some cold air from the tubes originally connected to the stock airbox. Or you could just take those out. The difference is REALLY minimal at best. When you 're moving, or drag racing (like I do), the air is cold when you need it to be.
I could see a reason to argue that CAIs are definitely better than SRIs if the SRI piping put the filter right above the headers or something! Even then, cold air will make it's way up from under or behind the radiator while moving.
People talk about hp gains that are really noticeable from aftermarket intakes, and its really kind of ridiculous. Even with bone stock 125 or 130 hp, a 4 hp gain (which is an ideal, not a reality for most) will not be what you notice, since that's nowhere near 10% of a change (considered the minimum of a noticeable difference, I've heard). What you WILL notice is an increase in throttle response and a nice sound when the throttle body opens (well some think it's nice, my girlfriend pleaded I take my first SRI off the minute she first heard it).
Based on what I know now, the most important thing when it comes to inkates is to take care of your engine. Cheap cone filters don't do the job they are supposed to do, letting crap into your manifold, eventually oil, everywhere. One post on this forum even talks about doing an oil test and finding a high dirt count when using a K&N filter. That makes me want to go with the highest quality I can find!

Gosh, ANOTHER website is spamming CB7Tuner??? Must be popular!

if you slap any cold air intake on you can actually loose power rather than gain . the reason for this is you loose the + air pressure that you would get from the stock air box . unless you're building a full race engine.

Haha WJP004 is hillarious! The first fiber glass airbox he made has a custom inlet pipe, which is exactly why I am going with Weapon R secret, since they basically give you an accordion inlet pipe to put wherever you see fit.
