ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Ball joint problem?

Picked up a 92' accord today, tested it out all sounded fine. Drove it home, now when i steer the wheel at low speeds or when its stopped there's a squeaking sound. Almost like the power steering is going out. My brother is a mechanic and he said it could be the upper ball joints? Anyone else have this problem?
By the way I'm new here, just starting off.

It's more likely your lower ball joint. Once they start to get noisy you really should replace them soon. You don't want to wait and have them break on you while driving on the highway.

If it does require a ball joint or upper control arm, you are better off using oem parts. The aftermarket parts will not last as long.

You don't need to tell us that you're new here. We know that. We're in the Beginner section, after all!

Usually, the ball joints only begin to fail when the boots are torn. They CAN fail prematurely otherwise, but it's not common. Any ball joint with a torn boot should be replaced ASAP. Ball joint failure will make you crash.

Did your brother listen for the sound, or is he only going by your description? It could be the power steering. It could be the steering rack.

I made the mistake on my last cb to use ebay joints for one then try to run them as long as possible just doing my best to keep grease in them and bam one night just as I was getting into my apt parkin lot over the first speed bump bam left side gave lucky I didn't rip my cv joint or screw up my shock. Lessen I learned there was to use Honda at best uppers and lowers were changed the next day. Also got a lecture from the tow truck dude

Wow. Good to know. Are oem ball joints a lot more expensive than aftermarket? I guess I'll stop looking for ball joints and tie rod ends on ebay.

I am a big fan of Moog and QA1 (but I really doubt QA1 is what you are looking for lol). I trust both of them in my DD and track cars I have built.
