ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

wheel and tire size dilemma. stuck need help

First off thanks to the cb7tuner.com family,
For being so educative & informational.
This is my 1st cb and I love her ...
    I'm replacing the o.e.steelies &
Will be doing a full suspension replacement,
This weekend. Also a 2 in drop.
What is the best wheel setup with no modifications?
    Thanks again.

You will need a wheel that has a proper offset (generally between +35 and +45, depending on width), along with a tire size that will give you the proper overall diameter (which will vary, depending on the diameter and width of the wheel.) I would stick to wheels no wider than 7.5". People have gone wider, but for the ease of fitment, stay at that width or less. Most of your options will fall in that range anyway.
Buy a quality brand, and use hubcentric rings. ALL aftermarket wheels are going to require them.

Honestly, just go on TireRack.com, or call them, and order your wheels and tires. They'll sell you wheels and tires that fit properly, and they supply the proper hubcentric rings as well. Pick up some tuner style lug nuts, maybe some wheel locks, and you'll be good to go.

A 2" drop shouldn't limit your wheel options in any way. You MAY want to consider a camber kit (Ingalls or SPC... I wouldn't trust any other brand.) You'll definitely need an alignment after the suspension replacement, unless you want to destroy your new tires in a few thousand miles.

Also, for a 2" drop, I hope you're using properly matched shocks. Stock shocks, or simple stock replacement shocks (which include KYB GR2 and Tokico HP) are not good for a drop like that. It's not extreme, but it's beyond the intended use for those shocks.

I considered OEM alloys. And I'm still on the hunt, but at the moment I've have 2 different sets of 18s
Available to me. I will be Installing all new suspension set up this wkend, ie. Control arms, tierods, ball jnts,
Sway bar links, both rear upper control arms, 2in drop springs, shocks (oe), oil pan gskt. Will definitely look Into the hubcentric rings. And tend to any other systems that might need attention.
CV axles, Brakes, ect. THANK YOU. IM VERY EXCITED TO START THIS ONGOING PROJECT.
Will post pics when I'm done I'd like to showcase from start to finish.

Sounds like you have everything planned. These are the holy grail of stock CB7 wheels, imo.

Were chrome wheels ever offered as a factory option, or even a dealer option?

As deevergote said, "Stock shocks, or simple stock replacement shocks (which include KYB GR2 and Tokico HP) are not good for a drop like that".

Please learn from other people's experiences. I tried to lower my car with 2.5" drop springs on new stock shocks and it didn't turn out that well. Within a few months, the car was so bouncy because the shocks blew.

Save up some money and buy some better shocks.

The sad thing is, 20 people can say that, and one person can say "I did it and it was fine!" (and there's ALWAYS one), and far too often, people will ignore the 20 and listen to the one. :-/

Honestly, for our cars, Koni Yellows or Tokico Illuminas are really the only commonly available shocks that are compatible with 90% of the lowering springs on the market. Those shocks paired with quality springs will also be a FAR better setup than any of the flashy cheap coilover junk that's so popular these days, too.

I'm not sure. I did see some chrome 6th gen wheels I believe at the JY, but they were chipping and just in overall poor condition.

                    I completely agree!

At first, I was convinced that I was going to be ok on stock shocks (this was before I ever heard of cb7tuner). Slowly but surely, the typical signs of blown shocks started to show up and just kept getting worse. By the end of it, the car was so bouncy it was awful to drive.

I actually swapped out the blown shocks for a set of Tokico Illuminas (I think I read somewhere way back then that you suggested these along with the Koni Yellows, thanks for that). They have now been on my car for about 8 years and I couldn't be happier. No signs of them going bad with a 2.5" drop.

I love those. Other option for OEM is having a set refinished.

I would love to gold chrome dip my factory ex alloys . Probably really expensive. Still think 16" looks best on our cars. I'm jealous of the VW guys who have an option now for brand new 'snowflake' wheels in different sizes.
For the love of god, STOP putting H.I.D's in stock housings!!! Projectors ONLY!!!
