Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Listen, PLEASE don't even address this issue unless you've had FIRST HAND experience with chopped springs. I have, and on make cars. First off, the more coils you cut the worse the ride. With my golf at 1 coil cut, noticable different in handling, no difference in ride. My golf with 2 coils cut, seriously noticable difference in handling and barely noticable ride difference I shoulda left it here but nope I love tinkering. My golf 4 coils cut looks SICK.. SLAMMED, handles RIDICULOUS but the ride quality is absolutely SHIT and scrapes off everything. My buddies 240, drifter. 3 coils cut nice drop about a pinky wheel gap and an o.k. ride quality. My buddies teg, 3 coils cut, nice drop sweeet handling bouncy ride. My buddies eg hatch civic, 4 coils cut, stupid low drop, ok handling and the WORST ride ever.
As for chopped lowering springs, my buddys ef chopped 2 coils off his lowering springs rofl slammmizzled drop, shit ride insane handling.
Now someone please tell me how you call this dangerous??? Yes you will over TIME blow your struts but I've never had a car last long enough for me to care. also how the hell would you get more problems??? you get the same shit either way.Last edited by Fr0z3N; 08-04-2007, 12:27 AM.Originally posted by deevergoteI'd eat a baby for free. only if you're a whiny bitch.Originally posted by f22cb7lxCut springs = more problems = more money to spend = frustration
My civic has cut ebay coilovers with blown shocks. It sucks ass, but w/e that's the way I got he car and I don't really care. It's not that bad once you get used to it.

I could give you a million reasons not to...and explain the physics behind it, but if you just want to ride that low, go for it.
Yes, I've had first hand experience with cut springs...and I don't feel it's safe at all. For slow around town cruising I guess it's okay...but like I sad, I wouldn't recommend it at all.
When you cut the springs and hit a bump you don't have the same resistance going up that you normally do and take the weight off the tires. That's not going to give you predictable handling.
If you need to cut corners that much where you're cutting springs...take some time and save, and do it correctly. Suspension is not a place to cheap out on.

blown shocks arent really a problem, more of an annoyance really.
BTW, I don't recommend cutting your springs, only for safety reasons. But it's not as bad as everyone makes it sound. I bet less than half the people that tell you its a bad idea have ever really ridden on cut springs/blown shocks.

Are you joking me??? Are we talking about the same thing???Originally posted by f22cb7lxyou just said the answers then why the hell u ask?
Lets take this as an example the car is getting lowered no matter WHAT.
Either way it WILL scrape. It WILL damage whatever's scrapped. No matter WHICH way it is dropped...
My point was if you want the dropped LOOK and IMPROVED handling. Yeah you fuck youself for ride quality but you still get look and improvements on handling. That's on a major chop.
If you want the handling and aggressive stance, you can still get it without a major chop and without major ride quality loss.
My question was what gives you more problems with chopped springs vrs lowering springs
with springs an aggressive drop will still fuck you over for ride quality, it will still fuck you over for blown struts and you still WILL scrape.
The only way to do it properly is with PROPER springs/struts which is BIG MONEY!! and you WILL still scrape.
You must be missing some physics here. When you have a fully compressed FULL spring it's gunna SPRING you up when you it a bump.... With less of a spring you get well... less of a SPRING.Originally posted by AccordWarriorWhen you cut the springs and hit a bump you don't have the same resistance going up that you normally do and take the weight off the tires. If I was to compare a stock golf vrs my golf there is absolutely NO DOUBT that my golf will beat it in every aspect handling wise.
I have driven many cars, and BY far I feel WAY safer in a lowered car driving the speeds that I do and taking corners the way that I do
Not only does a lower car improve the center of gravity but it also gives you way less body roll.Last edited by Fr0z3N; 08-04-2007, 12:53 AM.Originally posted by deevergoteI'd eat a baby for free. I'm hungry, dammit!

I was riding on cutted springs and blows shocks , like you said it's annoyance then for me it's both , problems and annoyance. Problem = goes a bit out of control on the freeway and on road imperfections , the rear moves uncontrollably which you ahve to slow down just to regain control. Annoyance = bounciness.Originally posted by d112crzyblown shocks arent really a problem, more of an annoyance really.

I don't know how you can even compare them, especially at high speeds, high speeds in a stock suspension car feels like you get airborne off of bumps... With a lowered car you just drop after a bump imo it is WAYYY safer compared to a stock car getting a HUGE fling off a high speed bump. Compared to a lower car just dropping or raising to compensate for the road.Originally posted by f22cb7lxI was riding on cutted springs and blows shocks , like you said it's annoyance then for me it's both , problems and annoyance.
