    Rust Work

Hey everyone, this is my first post on here. I have a 92 Accord EX and it is rusting real bad in the usual spots and I wanted to take care of it this year. Does anyone have a site they can point me to to give me a lil more info on taking care of this myself? The problem is on the back fenders where the bumper meets the rust spots have turned into holes (a combo of rough winters and lil bastards here that put their fingers thru it) and I want to know the best route to take with this, either a fiberglass patch kit w/bondo, new body parts, or a friend said something about cutting and welding After all this I want to get it painted and decide to get the engine swap or trade it in on a Acura RSX

cutting and welding is the only way to get rid of it properly so it won't come back. fiberglass traps moisture packets so it'll lead to more, and bondo is even worse.

Failed motor vehicle inspection due to 1/4 panel rust!

I failed motor vehicle inspection due to the rust on both 1/4 panels. In thier words "body has sharp edges". One estimate will cost $800 because both 1/4 panels will have to be replaced with aftermarket ones. My only hope is Maaco because their price of $850 will fix the rust and paint the whole car. My emissions results were excellent with 180K on the 90 F22A1, but they waive the rust. I would like to fix the rust without a state agency breathing down my neck.

800 to replace?...I hope theyre doing the inner metal as well. I'm having this work done in two weeks...inner metal, outer metal, everything, and its costing a lot more than 800.

mmmm.... im just ripping my fenders and quarter panels off and rebuilding the body from the lids down

                  ...but that's just me

but, yeah -- make sure they get the inner metal and everything -- do it right -- or your cancer will still spread even though you can't necessarily see it...

                  breathing is deadly underwater...

better hope they do a good job, if not, at least decent one. results of cars painted at Maaco are hit-or-miss...mostly MISS . to fix rust, especially the rear quarter panels is not an easy fix, and costs more than $850 if you want it done right.

I am thinking about ripping them off and getting new ones. I looked and inside is rusting real bad too I like working on cars so I am not trying to take it to a shop so I'll see if my one buddy will help me, he does stuff like this. If not I will take it into a shop round here, I might have to save for a while but I am sure it will be worth it

There's no real way to "rip them off" you have to cut part of the body off, and weld a new section of metal back in. You can get cuts, there's a few companies online who manufacturer new quarter panels for our car. The quarter panels are part of the frame though, that's the killer.

I'm looking to get it done soon too... good luck.

Yeah man I noticed that this morning Can you give me the sites for the companies online? I tried to do a search a few times last night and got back all junk. I am going to call a few junk yards this morning too cause u never know. I see 4thgen Accords all the time and the first thing I look at is the usual rust spots
I have also noticed rust starting under the doors and down behind the rear passanger doors, but it looks a lot easier than the 1/4's. Cleveland winters have been brutal on my ride the past few years.
