    Headlight Assembly questions

The headlights on my SE are pretty bad (scratched, dinged, fogged, etc), so we decided to replace them with the ones on the parts car I bought since they seemed to be in better shape. However, upon pulling them both out, it appears that a piece of plastic on one of them was broken or sheered off.

So, is it possible to remove the clips and just replace the glass cover, or will that permanently damage the light?

I put pix of what I'm talking about here: http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Spacepig/library/lights (hope the link works)

Yes, it's entirely possible. Just follow any of the projector install or blackhousing DIYs that detail removing the metal clips and putting the headlights in an oven. It's incredibly easy to do.

Have you tried polishing them? Though they look pretty bad. So it may not be worth the effort.

Never even thought to look at those since I didn't think they were applicable. Thanks!

I didn't realize my lights were that bad, either, until comparing them to the others. We did buy one of those polishing kits which didn't work. However, we realized after the fact that it was for plastic, which is probably why.

www.eastwood.com sells two glass polishing kits (original and heavy duty). I have used the original lighter duty (for windshield scratches that can't be felt with your fingernail) to salvage several windshields (see DIY http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=171528). It works with anything glass; I've cleaned up some of my own headlights, plastic headlight, tail light, and turn signal lenses.
