I've personally got the Escort Passport 8500 X50i, its saved me a couple times. Even has the LASER and POP modes. I like it, it doesn't compare to the new 9500i though, that one has a built in GPS chip and remembers where the false peaks are, such as CVS pharmacy's and Walgreens which my detector goes off EVERY time.

I dont think V1's have a GPS memorization storage. I just got used to my area.
Wait, another member noted that detectors are detectable?
Seriously?
You guys wouldn't need to waste your money on these if you drove the speed limit
Save that 2 fast 2 furious crap for tracks
YEAH.....
Fuck that! drive 200 mile on a road like Fl's SR60 where there is NOTHING and do the posted 50mph....
Sorry. Not me.
I will admit i break speeding laws but i DON'T drive wrecklessly...... I usually keep it under 80 anywhere except when passing or for very short times on mostly open highways.
i usually cap at 80 even if i am "racing" which i don't do often b/c my town is full of pussies and old people.
I have owned a Whistler and a cobra and and STI. Now they all worked....
The old ass Whistler was still better then the crapra. The only thing I liked about the cobra was the digital compass everything else was crappy compared to the Whistler and the STI.
I had a Bel top of the line a few years ago; it saved me a few times.
As you know radar detectors only work when the cops have their gun on; most of the time have them off and turn it on whenever see a fast car, so if a cop turn it on on a car ahead of you your radar may warn you depending how far you are; otherwise when cop turn his gun at you and you hear your radar beeping is too late because he got you; now when cops pull over drivers and see a radar detector they get crazy mad thinking you speed all the time and will give you as many tickets as they can. (if you get pull over hide it right away).
So, yeah radars detectors help a little while they are still updated with new cop's waves: x, laser, etc... but they get old and outdated really soon and become useless.
I always wanted to get and try a Valentine for years because drive 100 highway miles a day and do 70 mph where speed is 50 mph but was never able to afford to pay like $350-500 for one, maybe some day I get a used one for cheap.
