Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    header question

i'm considering buying one of the cheap headers from ebay since i need a new flex pipe anyway why not upgrade that whole part a bit....it's cheap enough even if no gains. anyway my real question is will it bolt to the stock cat, or what size flange is needed? none of the auctions say anything about the size of that flange.

BTW the rest of the exhaust is gonna be replaced due to it being shot I just kinda need to do it in peices and the cat is last on my list....also how it sounds will determine cat/no cat/highflow cat/etc. so was hoping that header would bolt up to it for a while.

no offence and i'm sure yours is a quality piece but that would at least double what i'm spending and i cant afford to spend what i am spending.

jsut some more info on my plan. with buying the stock replacement peices that I need and install was about $250. and that didn't include a header. if i switch to a cheaper than stock muffler($50 vs. $20/25), have him make my pipes in 2.25" vs stock replacment he said about same price, and instead of jsut buying a $30 flex pipe and spending $80 on this header/flexpipe i'm about $10 more than jsut going with stock stuff. only thing is he isn't big on removing cats cuz he can get in trouble so I would like it all to bolt to the stock cat then later I can buy me a highflow or a test pipe or what not when i have extra money again and jsut swap that myself!! i'm not looking to build a hot rod here...that is what the SS is for... but the exhaust is compeltely shot and i would like a 'little' noise and why not upgrade if i can do it for about the same price.

      Damn I sure can ramble!!

don't cheap out....do not go ebay for a header! u'll regret it....they will look nasty, they will crack, u will have leaks! go to someone who actualy knows what they are doing to get it installed bc on the header, u have to keep tightening down the bolts to spec.....warm car up to normal operating temps 2 times and after each start up, shut down car and retighten header bolts......then after about a few hundred miles, retighten down bolts to spec again....this is assuming u are using a new gasket which u should do. takes time for the gasket to break in and seat properly. hope this helps. save up for decent parts! u'll end up saving $$$$$ in the end.

If you can find a Megan brand header on Ebay that fits your car, that might be the one that's worth getting if its in your price range.

Installing a header really isn't all that bad. I helped install a Megan one on a friend's car. It appeared to be a good quality piece, and they said they felt gains after they put it on.

For a cat, you don't want an Ebay high flow cat...90% of the ones on there that claim to be a high flow cat aren't, they are merely test pipes which won't help your car pass emissions.

thanks for the input guys. I'm not real concerned about emmisions as i don't ahve testing. i actually considered removing it completely. as for install i'm not doing it myself. I know a guy that owns his own exhaust shop and he is the one doing it and building the rest of the exhaust as well. I will check into the other brand mentioned, but like i said i'm not real concerned with performance or looks and thanks to my wife i'm frigin broke!!

any input from anyone with the ebay header??
