Just wondering what the advantages are of having a manual boost controller over an electronic boost controller besides the fact that it's cheaper? I plan upping my boost in the future and I would like to have different levels of boost available during a run at the track and I know that there are dual stage mbc that can be adjusted during a run from inside the cabin, but would an electronic boost controller be more suitable for want I want? For example at the track I would like to launch at a lower psi and then be able to raise the boost level during the run, let's say from 8psi to 18psi. There is a good mbc for $115 that has dual stage and then there are the expensive ebc like Greddy and HKS that are much more, but I'm wondering if it's better to pay more and have an ebc?

MBC's can spike easily and adjustment is a guess each time you turn the knob.
A dual stage MBC (semi electronic) is good If you want to flick between 2 different settings.
EBC's are more accurate, and do a better job of controlling boost pressures.

Either by using a modified ecu, or the controller that comes with EBC's.Originally posted by 93F22A6 View PostHold on, how do these work (sorry for the newbish question). Wouldn't this have to piggy back onto the ecu to modify the tune as the boost raises. I'm just a little confused here.
If your using an ecu to control it you only need the solenoid. If your don't have a modified ecu you need an electronic controller.

Theres obviously no point running like 20psi in 1st gear.
I keep meaning to setup boost by gear for 1st and 2nd gears on hondata, just never get around to it and I end up just using the throttle to control it

Only? You make it sound like traction isn't a big issue.Originally posted by evil_demon_01 View Post

Boost by gear is better than an EBC, imo. Just have 3rd and 4th be your max psi.
OR, use a semi ebc and have it on a toggle switch so you can switch it to super high boost whenever you want to. AKA, the noggle switch.

I diddn't mean to sound like that, but technically that IS its only purpose
