Well guys, my boost project is being held back again...yes i know i said that 3 months ago...then 2 months ago...last month and so on but get over it lol
Ok heres the deal, i've been watching and researching many boosted f22's and trying to figure out why they keep blowing up. I'm convinced it has to do with the engine and fuel management. I'd acquired 1g dsm 450cc injectors, an AEM fuel pressure regulator, the walbro 255lph fuel pump, and the Apex'i SAFC but my setup is the same as 3 other boosted f22's that are no longer running because the engine blew.
So i was napa yesterday and ran into this Stephen kid who boosted a LS engine. He asked what management i was using i told him my setup in the above order and when i got to the SAFC he cringed and suggested i do what he and many others have done...no not a fmu...chip the ecu and run it on custom fuel and ignition maps. I have been very interested in running a chipped ecu but wanted to keep my IAB function and didn't feel that i would have the knowledge as of yet to customize the maps or get everything hooked up correctly. But after doing alot of research i've decided to ditch the safc and run a chipped p28 ecu on uberdata and ecucontrol for datalogging.
Uberdata will allow me to change any aspect of the a/f ratio, ignition timing, allows full throttle launches and shifts, and some other very useful features are included as well. I've seen wideband dyno's where ppl have been able to get their a/f ratios between 11.7:1-12.0:1 throughout the ENTIRE powerband. Its basically like a free hondata unit but not so well known. The reason i'm ditching the safc is because of the way it adds fuel. It adds fuel by shrinking the ignition maps thus advances the timing. Too many boosted f's have blown up and i don't want to be one of them.
I'll do a diy on all the parts as well as the other aspects of my turbo project. I may even buy a cheapo laptop (if anybody is selling one lemme know) so i can burn new maps inside my car as i please. Fully adjustable engine management, decent fuel delivery, and correct cam timing will have this engine running marvelously. We already know the car will be fast but with this major change it stands a much better chance of lasting...as for costs...the safc cost me about $190 (which i'm going to sell)...uberdata is free, the various connections to the ecu from the laptop will be about $30, p28 ecu $50, chipping parts are $20, EcuControl is free, so i'll make back about $90 at the moment
