    Hand built intake manifold

So i have a few intakes sitting around collecting dust. I was wondering since I am boosting my f22, could it be benificial to hack up a few intakes bore them out tig them back together and get some gains. I am just not sure how tog go about getting a good design. Not looking o make money. Not spending money. just a leisurley project.

Since i am boosting would it still matter how long the runners are?

Idea 1: make the runners bend so that the top of the runners sit lower than stock so i can triple stack.

Idea 2: gutt the upper plenum H23 of its runner dividers. Entirely gutt one spacer, second spacer would have butterflies removed and be bored out to look like the runner dividers that where cut out of the upper plenum.

Idea 3: cut the runners into 2 inch sections. bore them out tig one back together, clean the inside of the plenum( clean the root of the weld) and continue through out.

Idea 4: i am curious when i go to tune to see if i can change the rpm level for the butterflies to open. say i hit boost at 4200 rpm, i would have them open right there to keep low end up there.

Cloudasc Idea: Centralize the Throttle body to create even air flow.

sorry guys but i am at work so i will be putting more ideas up on break but pleas throw any suggestions out there. thanks

    Honestly

If you want my opinion I say don't expect much in terms of gain with just randomly creating your own.

With high boost turbo applications large plenum and short runners seem to the be way to go. For a milder setup I would say something like the diy intake manifold modifications where they combine the low rpm and high rpm runners but leave the per cylinder runners intact is a good rout to take.

If your going to hack up intake manifolds, I would see about a way of getting the throttle body centered on the middle of the plenum, as the stock one sits, cylinder #4 gets the most air (closest to the throttlebody), and cylinder #1 gets the least (farthest from the throttlebody).

Sorry but it will be just a waste of time man. You can make 700+ hp on OEM Honda intake manifold with the butterflies still intact.

Instead, spend all that time to make money to buy better quality parts for your build.

I personally would just grab the Skunk2 manifold for a high hp build. Not sure if they make it for the F22 head but you can just use an adapter plate.

I had always read that cylinder 3 gets the most air.

well I am really just bored and want to have something that no one has seen before. I am just doing this on my breaks at work, no real money going into any thing.

Cloud your idea makes me think of the way the older f series carburated intakes were setup. i saw a guy on here that a carb'd turbo setup.

That might be true, due the sharp direction change to reach #4, but regardless the throttle body is not in the most ideal position to feed each cylinder.

If you get an overbore they correct this, as I am sure you know.

cylinder 4 gets less air, cylinder 3 gets the most, cylinders 1&2 get about equal. This is why tuning each individual cylinder can produce better gains, a smoother tune, and better longevity. It takes much longer to tune obviously and not all tuning software can run them individually.

As far as I know pretty much all OBD1 software can do individual cylinder trim for fuel. Only aem and other stand alones can do direct fire and therefore individual cylinder ignition adjustments. These also require cop ignition

yes runner length, size, taper, inlet, plenum volume, plenum shape play a large role. just because you add a turbo doesnt mean the dynamics of the intake can be whatever.

with clouds idea in mind what about cutting the IAB plates in half having the middle open and the butterflies on the outside? and making an adapter plate for the upper plenum?

trust me, i have experience with multiple intake setups. best setup so far has been a stock h23 intake mani with gutted double stacked iab plates and port matched to my 68mm tb. thats for mild n/a and for turbo gut the upper and lower plentum until you get to where the runners narrow and run that with no spacers. the upper will look like this

and the lower like this minus the walls

that mani looks like cisco's old h23 mani.
