    Lowering Advice Needed

Ok I've done some research, made up my mind on what I'm going to get for the most part. Eibach Sportline & KYB AGX.

    My questions are:

    1. I want sway bars, what brand would you guys recommend, and where's a good place to order them?

    2. I noticed when I changed my brake pads last month that my bushings were pretty much all cracked and dried out. A coworker of mine is putting polyurethane bushings on his bronco and I was wondering if anyone here uses those on their cb7, if so what brands and where to get them.

    3. Any idea of the time it will take for them to settle, I tend to drive hard about 60% of the time. One of my coworkers has a mazda speed and he's had his car lowered for about 10 months now and his car has barely settled at all, but he drives like a wuss.

    4. Lower tie bar, I've read that it doesnt do squat other than looks, I'm gonna do it anyway because looks are important to me also. But I would like to be sure.

    5. I've found eibach sportlines for 198 shipped and the kyb agx for 120 + shipping, anyone seen them cheaper?

    6. Finally... I'm still confused a lil bit on one last thing... the shock vs the strut... is it the same thing? I've read that lowering without changing you strut can blow it out.... but I've also kinda gathered that a spring and shock are the same thing....

Please dont flame me telling me to search, I've been reading about lowering my car for awhile now and I can't figure these things out on my own.

    Thanks in advance.

    1.Suspension Techniques Sway Bar Kit F&R ($249.95, summitracing.com)

2.OEM is the way to go...Ive heard more feedback leaning to negative than + on getting polyurethanes...stick with OEM for general ride quality and comfort.(bernardiparts.com)

3.Once they settle, they start squeaking..time? idk...

4.It doesnt hurt to have one. Once a car is lowered, camber is a major factor. This helps the back end stay and handle alot better.

5.First off, the question you have to ask yourself what kind of methods are you going to be riding in? Do you want to just have a lower stance, or do you want a very good handling? Theres alot to think and choose from:

-Race- Usually has a lower drop than sport, these are made to be used with aggresive driving, such as track racing.(Neuspeed Race On Sale $135, modacar.com)
-Sport- These are made with the intention to have somewhat of a leveled, decent, and deliver more comfort than Race springs, only dont perform as well. They are designed to have more ride quality and comfort for everyday driving conditions/show purposes.

    6. Ok, whoever told you that obviously knows nothing. Ask yourself why do they have so much options in the market? Again, just like the springs, think about it. But that question, Ill let someone else be more specific on that...

I hope this helps, word of advice...your doing a good thing, researching. Dont go out buying shit cuz its cheap. Buy something that works....im out.

Mine took a few months or more to fully settle. Had to adjust the springs every few weeks.

Our cars have shocks as part of the struts, they are one and the same.

I'm not sure I'd go with poly bushings on my car. 15" rims and stiff shocks/spring allow me to feel every crack in the road as it is. I don't know if the poly bushings would be over doing it.

well, on the poly's, i actually heard feedback from ppl here a while back, and my own mechanic. Dont get me wrong, I wanted them, but Im inclined more towards comfort (and OEM Parts) It might be a little softer than tight on turns, but hey, I have a wagon now, not too much cornering involved. For daily driving purposes, id prefer to stick to OEM bushings, my upcoming Tein setup, and prolly some ST sway bars.

STracing....is a pretty good setup and relatively cheap. check summit like above.

            2. I noticed when I changed my brake pads last month that my bushings were pretty much all cracked and dried out. A coworker of mine is putting polyurethane bushings on his bronco and I was wondering if anyone here uses those on their cb7, if so what brands and where to get them.

OEM bushings all the way. Poly bushings are good if you drive on a race track everyday, but the OEM bushings have a lower durometer and is better for daily driving...not to mention, they will put less stress on your ball joints.

            3. Any idea of the time it will take for them to settle, I tend to drive hard about 60% of the time. One of my coworkers has a mazda speed and he's had his car lowered for about 10 months now and his car has barely settled at all, but he drives like a wuss.

The suspension will settle a lot faster if you tend to drive at high speeds alot...read highways. but driving "hard" on normal roads probably won't do much...either case....my suspension took about three weeks to fully settle...that was with 200km commutes everyday.

            4. Lower tie bar, I've read that it doesnt do squat other than looks, I'm gonna do it anyway because looks are important to me also. But I would like to be sure.

adding a lower tie bar will definitely increase your lower frame structural integrity, its just that you won't really feel it.

            5. I've found eibach sportlines for 198 shipped and the kyb agx for 120 + shipping, anyone seen them cheaper?

have you tried sourcing Tokico's or Koni's...if they are comparable in price I suggest you get one of those...their engineering and manufacturing methods are much greater than that of KYB... FYI, Tokico apparently makes the shock housings for Honda.

            6. Finally... I'm still confused a lil bit on one last thing... the shock vs the strut... is it the same thing? I've read that lowering without changing you strut can blow it out.... but I've also kinda gathered that a spring and shock are the same thing....

I just got this off a website:

The Difference Between A Shock And Strut

Shock absorbers and struts are quite similar in some ways. They both dampen the bounce of the tire and stabilize the vehicle.

McPherson Struts, however, are an integral part of the front and/or rear suspension of the vehicle. The strut assembly provides the upper suspension and wheel turning support. It is an integral part of the suspension geometry and directly affects the vehicle tracking.

Shock absorbers are installed inside or near the coil spring, leaf spring or torsion bar. They are not an integral part of the suspension system and as such do not affect vehicle alignment. Also, if broken will not keep the vehicle from being driven.

A broken McPherson strut may keep the vehicle from being driven because of the potential loss of steering control.

Struts are much more expensive than shocks because they are more a part of the vehicle and take the place of many components that must be used in the conventional front suspension.

            have fun

              Shock Absorbers:

When lowering a car with a set of performance springs, the natural progression is to install a new set of performance shock absorbers at the same time. The shock absorber's job is to control the motion of the spring. When you replace the spring with a stiffer spring the shock may no longer have sufficient enough dampening to control the spring. People who replace the springs without a stiffer set of shocks often complain of a bouncy ride.

thanks guys answered every question more than i expected... im definately not going to use eibach or the kyb's anymore. im still debating on which im going to go with but those are definately outta the picture. bushings... im definately goin with the oem. because this is not a track car, even tho i drive it on the streets like a track car... its not. im going to do the lower tie bar, i want as much rigidity while im driving as possible. i like to drive through canyons (we've got some kick ass ones within an hour of my house). thanks for the sway bar link im going to check those out... the only ones i found where some no anme brand and f that, i go with the name brand because knock off's are shit.

i do drive at high speeds a lot, most of my driving is long straight roads in the middle of no where and freeway, i average around 80-90mph on them and i drive around 60-100 miles a day.

i never planned on lowering on stock struts, i just wanted to know the difference because i wasnt sure... but im clear now, thanks.

also, the sway bar set on summit looks good and all... but green? anyone know where the might be some red? lol im tryin to keep a red theme goin with my aftermarket parts. thanks again... i know theres somethin else i wanna ask but im a bit buzzed right now.

                  peace

I don't know of any red sway bars around...Intrax made a purple one....

what I am doing with the used Suspension Techniques set I got is Powder coating them a dark grey color...the powdercoating will last a lot longer than the original spray on paint (which is a little chipped now) plus the dark grey should blend in well with the under carriage. I can't afford to show off the sway bars...or the fact that my car is modded.

just search your yellowpages...u'll find tonns of places that powder coat.

ive got plenty of powder coat hookups out here... my coworker has one of the fastest cars in my town and has hookups everywhere... so nething i need i ask him and he points me in the right direction.

ya i figured there was nothing other than green, i guess ill just have to powder coat them black or red... or a combination of the 2.

The main drawback to the AGX is they kill the drop of your car compared to other struts out there. I really can't complain about the ride quality though. I'm on a Neuspeed Sport spring, and not a race spring.

The other thing that sometimes people gripe about when it comes to the Sportlines is that the drop isn't very even, or doesn't keep the stock "rake". With a set of Sportlines, there's a good chance your back will be lower than your front.

well ive done some more research, ive decided nuespeeds for sure... still not positive about struts, but definately agx is outta the picture.

its ok they come in green tho, my homie at work said he has a guy who powdercoats, he just did a bunch of his engine components.. so ill just take it there and get it in red or black.

again thanks for all the help
