need some help on choosing an engine

Im wanting to do a swap one of these days but there are so many different engines and combos to choose from. I would not mind doing a Frankenstein engine since I'm going to do it right anyway.

    what I'm looking for:
    • reliability of f22
    • VTEC
    • long lasting like the f22
    • reliable mild turbo

i just need some help getting pointed in the right direction

    thanks.

What's your definition of reliable? It's a Honda engine, it'll last 350k with proper maintenance. Once you turbo something, that automatically kills any reliability you can actually count on. I'd say your easiest/cheapest swap option to meet that criteria would be an H22. Cheaper still, forget having VTEC and just boost the F. If you want reliability, get stronger internals regardless of how much boost you're running.

Stock K23a1. Meets all of your requirements. Done.

its going to have the best internals along with re-sleaving the block. i thought about boosting the f but i really like vtec to.

^No, the K23. Yes, three. It's what's in the turbocharged RDX. It's actually not a bad idea. Getting one for cheap might be an issue. IDK what kind of similarities it shares with the 24 though, i.e; mounts.

Otherwise, as stated, I'd stick to either the H22 or turboing an F.

my bad. i mis typed. i loked up mounts for the k23 and other parts and they are crazy expensive.

i guess im just going to turbo the F and get another car with vtec so i can have that.

when the k23 gets cheaper and some end up in a JY then i will reconsider

i was think at first doing a g22 but someone told me i would lose reliability

You say you like VTEC....have you ever HAD a car with VTEC or you're just saying that because the valve cover looks cool?

Power is power, it doesn't matter how you make it. Honestly for maximum reliability, keep it an F22A. You don't have to worry about any fitment issues, everything looks like it belongs there, and parts are the cheapest of them all, whether you're trying to just fix something, or upgrade. If I ever lose my H22A, I'm going back to an F22A myself.

F20b, H23a, or any H22 theres the easy dohc vtakkkk popping madness swaps for the cb.

Buying just because you want to pop vtec is a bit silly. If you're looking for aftermarket performance the F is a fantastic platform.

to be 150% honest with you, i want VTEC because i am absolutely in love with the sound, the pop, the sudden lurch. it makes me cream my jeans so to speak

i guess the f22 is what i am looking for all along.

It is your car after all, not any of ours. If VTEC will help you to better enjoy driving it (which is what this hobby is all about, and I agree that it is a cool feeling, even if a bit pointless on the whole), why not? An H22 is still a very cheap swap option; leaving out the basic maintenance needs you should be doing on your F22 anyway, you can have a low-mileage HMO motor in and running for under $2,000. There is a bit of work with the wiring to be done, and a couple odd parts to get things like power steering to work, but it bolts in like stock and a more powerful base carries reliability of its own. Do what you want.

They all can be made to run if you want one get one all are pretty easy swaps and good performers. I've always wanted a F20b, but im keen on singles aswell.

Oh and for the baaaWAAAAAA check out dj_enders and jdm92_accorns beautiful F series notes.
