    diy traction BAR????

well i've taken a look some traction bars
and this is what i've come up with

its a big square bar that holds two adjustable RADIUS RODS
in other words provides a more stronger support to the loweer control arm
by andjusting how much caster the front wheels have thus minimizing wheel hop

    soooooooooooo......

why not take the factory radius rods and have them machined more thread in them so u can adjust caster with the factory radius rod

am i right? is it possible? im being technical
    so dont be posting
"well they invented traction bars for a reason"
    "F*** that i'll buy a traction bar"
    "traction bars are better"

    thank you

You still wouldnt be able to adjust caster. You would just increase the tension. The only way your gonna adjust caster is cutting into the upper strut tower and actually slitting it to adjust caster. Just buy an ESP or Collective racing trac bar they already make it and arent that expensive.

the traction bar still not gonna adjust caster
either because it would be doing the same thing the DIY one would do
it would actually be a ajustable radius rod

i used to align cars for a living and u would be amazed how
something like a tracion bar would help caster

i other words i wanna know what does the traction bar really do?

          why
and how does it improve traction if is by caster

the my radius rod will work

Traction bar is completely solid. No rubber bushings to flex. Stiffens everything up.

You cannot adjust caster with it.

both caster and toe are adjustable on stock CB7 suspension setups. toe being the tie rod, and caster is adjustable by adding or removing spacer shims at the end of the radius rod before installing it through the main bushings. tension on this bushing is NOT adjustable, the nut will stop tightening when it reaches the end of the bushing's collar.

granted removing the radius rod just to add a washer is a huge pain just to adjust caster, so the traction bars add the convenience of adjustability without removing it entirely.

the main benefit of the traction bar setup is how solid the radius rod bars are, on top of the fact they dont seat into bushings, they bolt directly to a welded square bar frame. theres no play whatsoever, besides the room for motion that they are pivoted to provide.

also, they provide plenty of space up front.

EXACTLY. I was going to say something like this but you nailed it first.

It's fucking incredible that people can come up with crazy ideas like this thread and not realize very important simple shit like Mike pointed out. This is like that dumbass idea from way back when about making replacement doors entirely out of fiberglass.

you cant adjust caster. you could adjust camber. unless your ready to do some big body modification, then yes.

i thought hard about this idea. and this is what i came up with.

make some big washers. about 1" thick. and where the rubber bushings are for the radius rods, weld them on each side. than slide the bars in and bolt them down. that would tighten up pretty solid.

chilax dude. there is play in it. there has to be. thats why when we take off, the tires start jumping. with a setup im thinking, it should act as a traction bar setup.

neither on a stock setup nor a traction bar setup is CAMBER adjustable. BOTH provide adjustable CASTER.

simply bolting the radius rods into solid metal bushings would wreak havoc on the suspension and tear something apart. remember the part where i mentioned that the rods are made to pivot? strictly pivot up and down, not pull in and out or bend like a stock rod.

I know there's play in a stock setup, what's your point?

Between the OP forgetting about the bushings and you thinking its okay to solidly bolt everything together without bearing ends is fuckin' retarded.

It's about time I started stomping on this shit again.

P.S. I should have let you do that solid bushing idea on your own car. LOL

Yeah, and it's a stupid ass opinion. You're proposing that modifications be made to the stock radius rod setup in order to emulate real traction bars.

THE MODIFICATIONS NECESSARY FOR THIS TO ACTUALLY WORK BETTER THAN STOCK AND NOT BREAK ARE EXTENSIVE ENOUGH THAT YOU WOULD END UP CREATING YOURSELF A ONE-OFF SET OF TRACTION BARS ANYWAY.
