    like its being held back

HondaFan81 said the timing is off by 1 tooth, and the misfiring is the lower spark plug seals under the rocker assembly. Ill have them both done tomorrow and post my results.

it feels like the rev limiter

I havent checked the timing yet but does it make a difference what it feels like. I mean I can rev slow to 4500-5000 then it feels like it loses power and kicks back on its own.

No offense, but some of your questions are sort of silly. If you sit back and think about it logically, there is only one conclusion. Do check engine lights affect your performance? Well, considering they only come on when something fairly major is wrong, then it is safe to say YES.

As far as timing goes, it will make a HUGE difference in the way the car runs. One tooth off on the timing belt will either cause it to feel like it has no balls, or will cause it to ping like crazy. Even if you correct the distributor timing, it will STILL run like crap, because the valve sequence is not properly timed.

A CEL is not always a major problem, I've seen old beater CB7's with solid CEL conditions run better than some newer cars. There MPG might suffer a bit but other than that the cars preform great. If your CEL comes with drive ability problems that is when there is a significant problem, If your ECU goes into limp mode that is when you know for sure there is a main PGMFI fault.

OP, I'm sorry I don't have time to read your entire thread and actually see all of the parts you have thrown at this problem without testing or troubleshooting first. I would go with what your mechanic is telling you. If he is the one working on your car he would know what part to aimlessly replace next. That old adage shoot first ask questions later can start getting expensive when it comes to diagnosing car problems.....Good Luck

The check engine light indicates that something is amiss. Since with OBD-I only major functional systems are monitored, then you can pretty much count on the car not running as well with a CEL. Disagree all you want. I have seen tons of cars with them on, and NOT ONE single one ran better than a car with no CEL.

"Not running as well" and "major problems" are two different things. A CEL doesn't always indicate a major failure or problem. I think you need to look up the meaning of "Major Problem" To me that would be one of great importance and that the car would not work wile in this condition.

I drove one of these POS CD7's for 5 months with the CEL on for the O2 sensor. Not the end of the world, even in these days of unreal gas prices. I was still getting 500km/tank of gas. So can you prove to me that somehow my car was in major trouble of a catastrophic failure.I don't think it was running any worse than the rest of the 18 year old mistreated CD7 buckets o'turd out there.

He was refering to the fact that something had a major problem Pgmfi wise, not catastrophic engine failure wise - The CEL isn't going to tell you that the engine is about to throw a rod out the side of the block.
But OBDI WILL tell you the major (rather that minor) problems in the Pgmfi circuit (via CEL). Whereas OBDII will tell you the minor problems as well (via CEL)

To the OP - you said that the engine feels "like its being held back" then you said "it feels like the rev limiter" which one is it?
Definatly check the timing asap as incorrect timing can also cause other problems. Is there any work you have had done on the car recently?

                    feels like the rev limiter

I tried some higher NGK's today and they look better than the old ones but the problem still persists. I tried redlining it today and heard a pop sound today. Car drives fine, has a small misfire 5 secs after I start it and wont redline. It smokes for about 10 secs each morning before I drive and smokes in high rpms. I've seafoamed the brake booster line and put the rest in the gas tank, new fuel filter and swapped the dizzy from another cb7 and did the same thing. Now Im faced with timing belt, or ECU problem. I looked at the timing belt when I had my lower o rings changed, lined the crank up to 15* and the cam gear looked to be straight up but.... and when I cleared all my codes I can jump my ECU connector and the light will not flash, it will just stay on is this normal....

Thats a problem right there. You are supposed to line the crank up on TDC (0 degrees for the illiterate) and the cam should be straight up. So by this information I would tell your cam is 15 degrees retarded. Take it to your mechanic and have him set it straight, I don't know that I'd trust you to do that if you can't figure it out.

                          so when...

when you remove that little rubber grommet from the tranny to show the fly wheel you dont turn it to 15* because it has the 15*, a line in front of it and behind it. Or do I turn it to the other line on the flywheel. It's a single black line with none in front or behind it, is that the 0* mark??

dude, I just got word from a guy on Honda-tech, and he's been experiencing the same problems as we had and said that it might be the Head Gasket that's taking a shit. Check your coolant level, if you have to constantly/periodically check it and top it off like for me its once every 2-3 weeks, then its a good chance that it might be the HG that's the issue. I really hope its not because.....

..Guess how much Honda wanted to fix a new HG? $1113.76 + oil + filter + possible resurfacing of the head if its warped. So I wouldn't go there for a HG job.

Here's the thread on it I made on Honda Tech
