    1. The auto tensioner shouldnt crap out unless its old or if you have a bad ass valvetrain which sounds like yours is still stock so auto will suffice unless you didnt change it at the previous timing change.

    2. Realign all the timing marks and make sure everything lines up...If that is good then that is one thing to be relieved.

    3. If you feel like a valve was tapping that can cause a stalling or no start if its bad enough. I would do a compression test on all the cylinders to verify that part is good.

ok... i agree with the timing belt issue. But there is the possibility of some of the valves being bent now because of the knocking noises that were heard and then gone after a while. The auto tensioner is one of the worst nightmares for an H. I don't care if they are brand new from OEM.... they still can go bad at any time. just ask 90Cb7Sleeper.

expect the worst and hope for the best !!

                    Symptoms now

Idles low and rough. A slight rattling sound.. I want to say comming from the right side of the engine bay. Slugish in low rpms mid to high rpms or driving on the freeway seems fine.

Wow I wonder how that happened. Something must have hit it or just installed it wrong. Do you drop it in the tube? That could cause that. Supposed to let it in with the socket to prevent that.
