    idle surge???

Ok before anyone says anything, I have searched and tried EVERYTHING mentioned to get rid of it and all them things have done nothing.

    I changed:
    FITV
    IACV
    bled coolant system

fitv and iacv were switched with known working ones. There is no air in the coolant system anymore and its throwing no codes.

    Any ideas?

New FITV, but did you check that it was in adjustment? I've gotten a few new parts that needed adjustment.

This has been a fix one thing and another breaks ordeal.

because I just swapped the tranny yesterday. I buttoned everything up myself. I also checked again as I changed out the IACV and FITV.

This thing is stumping me ughh!

so? what makes you thin that these 15+ year old cars have invincible rubber vacuum lines... even a tiny pinhole sized leak will cause the idle to fluctuate.

how'd you check for a vacuum leak? id spray carb cleaner over the entire vacuum line setup and intake manifold.

                  check idle screw.

                    Follow my DIY:

With IACV disconnected, when setting base idle, if you can not get it to a consistent 600 RPM and it is higher, then you have vacuum leak.

I stumbled upon mine for weeks. And shockingly it was my intake mani gasket which had already been changed earlier this year. Funny thing was that when I unplugged the fuel injector harness, #1 had no change in idle at all. Well, that was because the mani gasket broke off about 2 inches off the lower part of port one of the gasket. And yes, I've tried every thing that you've mentioned already before I finally found the cause. I even swapped fuel rails, ecu, map, tps, replaced o2, adjusted valve clearance, and checked compression. I'm just glad that found the issue and were to fix in less than two hours. But yeah, I'm pretty sure you have vacuum leak somewhere. Also, I did spray carb and brake cleaner all over the vacuum hose and mani area but couldn't find anything because the gasket was broken on the bottom side of the mani. Gook luck. Hope you find it soon.

Umm probably because I am a mechanic for a living and have done a vacuum leak check WAY more than once.

The rest of you guys, I will check the gaskets and see if they are fine. They may be a culprit being that the car was neglected.

did you actually put a vacuum gauge on it and check vacuum? i am also a mechanic for a living, and work at a honda dealer and have seen plenty of these issues. i'm not trying to say yuo don't know what you're doing, but trying to pinpoint a tiny whole on the back of the intake manifold that you can't see can be time consuming and annoying.

did you use a vacuum guage or do the carb cleaner trick?
