    Chirping noise driving me insane!

Ok folks, i've got a noise in my car that's about to drive me to the nut house... I thought i had found it, but alas, no luck...

It only happens when i torque the motor, then let off... like after i take off from a stop, then let off to shift to second, it'll do it, almost every time. I can also get it to do it in the driveway by setting the e-brake and gently loading the motor and letting off. I was looking around one day, with some of my coworkers, and noticed the bolt that secures the bottom of the front torque strut mount was gone, so i thought that was it... I put a new bolt in there yesterday and it still does it. The only way I can describe the noise is like a turkey call... Sounds like two pieces of metal lightly rubbing each other... Was wondering if anyone has had this problem, and what you found. I can hear it strongest around the core support area on the transmission side of the bay...

    TIA

To the OP, does this sound, sound sorta like the alternator belt going out, but its more harsh like metal rubbing against each other really sharply. Cause i got that sound too, but that happened to me because some little child dashed across the road while i was doin 40mph. hit the brakes, but at the sametime geared down from D3 to 2 (auto) ever since then anytime the transmission changes out from 2nd, sometimes 1st or 3rd. i get that sound. my mechanic told me that my engine was somehow resting on the crossmember. But there's also something else. i haven't heard from him as to say what really is the issue, i'll find out tomorrow though

Sounds like what my car is doing occasionally, but I cannot make it do the sound while it is stationary. Sounds like freakin squirrells in my engine bay.

Check your oil pressure switch. It could be out or loose.

That has happening to my motor..//////

            Are you actually serious?

OP - Did you check that Both front mount bolts are tight?
Sounds like a bad engine mount to me. Otherwise it could be a loose radiator.

Yes sir I am serious. If I wasen't I would not tell the OP to check that.

I removed it, it went bad, got it replaced, and chirping sound went away.

If the oil pressure switch was out - it would pump all your engine oil all over the ground within a few short minutes.
If it was loose there would be a very noticeable oil stain under the car.

I had something like a chirp... but for an actual chirp, Id say check your altenator belt. My chirp was more like a vibrating chirp lol my driver side mount was soooo loose, come to find out, now I only hear the whirl of my PS going out... so check you other mounts.

Besides the obvious checking of other engine mounts, I would even inspect your front shocks.

These are the sort of things much easier to diagnose in person. Decent explanation though.

thanks for all the advice fellas. What pisses me off the most is that i work on cars for a living, and this damn noise has been kicking my ass, lol... so here's what i KNOW is NOT causing the noise... I took both belts off the car, and was able to recreate the noise, so those are out. Took that front mount out, still made the noise, so it's not that... took the radiator loose, and had someone hold it up off the frame, still made the noise... i lifted the car and looked underneath, and i didnt see evidence of anything rubbing anywhere... the suspension is really the only place i havent looked... i'll try spraying down bushings and what not tomorrow, see if i can pinpoint the noise...

Put car entirely on jack stands and perform your test to eliminate shocks.

Keep us posted on your findings.

If not the shocks, based on your sound description I think of some bushings. Perhaps the radius rod bushings? Those connect the lower control arm to front cross-member. Those are large bushings those, rare to get wear unless they were loose from prior job or previous owner.

Manual or auto tranny? Is this clutch related? Did you do test with it in neutral?

i dont think nobody mentioned the t-belt tensioner,
i just bought a new tensioner, (not a new belt yet)
and i cant get the mutha f**ka to not sound like a bird chirp...
(i had it nice n tight, and tried it loose, still churrped)
same thing as u, wen u wuld drive then let up to switch gears
and it wuld make the churrp,
i think i need a new t-belt to solve my issue,

i bet thats wats makin the noise,
check it out and good luck

It's a 5 speed... cant do it sitting still in neutral, i thought clutch too, but i can get it to do it on the road by just giving it a lil gas to torque the motor and letting off, w/o touching the clutch, so i don't think its the clutch. Radius arm bushing is something i hadn't thought of though, i'll add that to the list.

Timing belt is a remote possibility, but i've pretty much eliminated that, and the other belts, because i hear it mostly on the passenger side of the car. i think i have the t-belt a lil too tight though, cuz it whines a lil bit occasionally, different problem for a different day though, lol.
