Are the h22a1/a4 oil pans the same???

Other than the fact that one is aluminum, are they sized or shaped differently? I have an aluminum pan right now, but the thread in the pan is stripped. Instead of getting a timesert kit, I was just going to buy a new pan. I'm assuming the steel pans are going to be cheaper, but are they interchangeable?

The H22A1 and A4 oil pans can be swapped.

Whitch one is aluminum? I have yet to see a stock aluminum H22 oil pan.

What thread is stripped? As far as I know there aren't any threads in the oil pans themselves.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

      It's a pan from a 98 a4.

The stripped threads are where the oil drains. Last time I did an oil change the drain bolt just kept spinning. It was tight enough to hold for now, but the next oil change will include a new pan.

Drop the pan and tap the oil drain bung to the next bolt size up.

This is what i would do unless your pan has a bunch of dents in it.

The H22a1 (92-96) have a stamped steel oil pan and a full gasket that attaches them to the engine block.

The H22a4 (97-onward) have a cast aluminum oil pan which makes them rigid and allows it to use sealant instead of an oil pan gasket like the H22a1 oil pan, since the the rigid oil pan wont warp. It only uses a half moon shaped rubber insert near the main seal area.

The pan is in perfect condition.

What is the next size up? What's actually involved in tapping to a larger size? Do I just get the larger threaded tap, or whatever it's called, and just turn it through the whole and back it out? Or is there more to it?

What if I were to put one of these in and apply that epoxy shit(can't think of the name, brain fart), so it stayed in. Would that work?

JB weld doesn't always work well in oil saturated conditions. At least I have had it fail, even under no pressure. Specially if the surfaces aren't prepared 100%. 1 little spot missed in the prep process and oil will find it's way through.

If the F22 does fit. You would have to make sure that the sump of the pan isn't too deep. The H22A4 pickup may be shorter than the F22????? I don't have them both here to compare at the moment.

I though it would be the other way around because the H holds 5 qts. compared to the F 4 qts.

Just becuase the engine calls for more oil doesn't mean it has a deeper sump.

So then are you saying that the oil pickups in the H22 are deeper? Or are you simply stating that the H22 engine requires more oil? I can read the engine specs as well.

                        Engine overhaul = F22- 4.9L to the H22 5.9L.

That doesn't really tell us what sump is deeper or what pickup is what! The H22 could have a higher volume pump that requires more oil in the pan at a given time. Or the pans could have slightly different dimensions...

Are you basing this info off Honda spec sheets or do you have the two oil pans and pickups right in front of you that you are getting the measurements from?
