Alright so Ive looked things up on what the problem could be on here and tinkered around with things, but I still can't get vtec to kick in. H22a4 block with h22a head. Ive checked wiring, put in a new solenoid gasket, made sure the car was warm, oil levels are good, and reset the ecu. tried to take it to vtec cross over again and no luck, any one know what my problem could be and what I should check next?

It is grounded, the wire is about a foot long connecting to the chassis. My air temp should be working but I'll double check. I replaced the gasket, and Where's the filter located? I got the code once I rev'd to vtec and it didn't engage and threw the code, I check shortly after the light came on and that was the only code. With the exception on egr code because I have a skunk 2 intake manifold.

well shortened the ground to the thermostat housing and reset the ecu again and still nothing
I might have thought of what the problem could be but Im not sure if this will fix it. I had to replace my tp sensor and I dont think i set it to factory specs so I'm thinking that my rpm readings are off slightly, would that cause vtec to not work if rpm readings are off slightly?

You need an oil pressure gauge.
Doesn't the H22A solenoid valve only have 1 wire? That is what code 21 VTEC solenoid refers to. Not the pressure switch (2 wires).
Disconnect the single wire connector and check for continuity between the VTEC solenoid pin and chassis ground. There should be between 14 - 30Ω of resistance. If there is more or less replace the solenoid.
If the resistance on the solenoid is between 14-30Ω. Test the resistance between pin A4 and A26 @ the ECU (harness still connected and solenoid plugged in) It should also be between 14 - 30Ω. If there isn't check your wiring between the solenoid and the ECU for shorts/open wires. If there is between 14 - 30Ω replace your ECU. It is an issue with the ECU itself.

I checked continuity between solenoid and chassis and it was 18 ohms and just tired my buddies ecu the other day and still no vtec, so its not the ecu. I'll have to check a4 and a26 continuity next, there's probably fault wiring then. I was wondering about oil pressure to make sure its not that, but thinking about it my oil light would be on if I had low oil pressure.

This thread is a good example of someone knowing how to diagnose, and how to describe their situation. As well as how to take peoples advice and get the problem fixed.
Im glad you got it working
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.
You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

lol...wiring is a PITA... Glad to see you figured it out. Now go out and enjoy your VTECOriginally posted by cb7-tcakes View PostSo if your a tard like me and somehow mix up the vtec solenoid pin and vtec pressure pin. Your vtec isnt going to work
swapped pins and vtec engages now and motor is at 100%
