    Fuel Pump/Delivery problems/Install

Since there weren't any threads when I searched on fuel pump installs and problems i'm making one.

Last week we had problems with the accord and it started sputtering. Soon enough it stopped starting, figured out the fuel pump wasn't priming anymore so figured it was time for a new one after 480k miles. Upgraded to a 255lb fuel pump, you won't be using the old school hubs the oem fuel pumps have for power +/- cables, the newer ones have a plug that have a direct positive and negative wires. We cut those and used the bridges(bought from auto zone $5) to connect the new wires from the plug to the original's on the car.
My main relay also needed to be replaced since it proved to be a problem so we just left the fuel pump in since it was time to be replaced anyway.
Before jumping to the fuel pump conclusion check the:
    -Fuses
    -Main Relay
-All cables and plugs that'll relate to the power to the fuel pump.

    have the following ready
-Best to buy a pump that comes with a plug and filter, not all of them do so if you purchase online make sure to ask. You can buy an install kit if you want, but not really necessary.
    -disconnect your battery
-relieve pressure in the lines by loosening the large bolt on the top of the fuel rail, "14", take off fuel cap.
-Take out the backseat, you'll see the cover for the fuel tank, unplug it before you drop the tank to avoid stretching/breaking wires and clips.
    -Cutters/wire sliders
-Pliers,8, 10, 14 wrenches. some areas need extensions.
-Used the Hayne's manual for some reference as far as dropping the tank.
-tank is best to drop @ 1/4 tank if not empty.
-Keep a floor jack handy for tank support and a gas can/bucket to catch any fuel that'll come out the tank or lines.
    - you can test your unit by connecting it to your car battery, +/- so you don't install and figure out it doesn't work.

Only have a few pics, i'll post em soon.

Bump in less than 2 hours for what?

I don't really see a question in your thread.

I bumped it because when I was searching i've seen problems circulating around such as these but people not having a definite answer, so I wanted to keep it up for people to come across. So now thanks for the bump

i just cut a hole in the floor...very useful considering i didn't take the plug off the new pump when i put it in. had to pull the assembly back out. felt like an idiot, lol

I'm having an issue with my new install and can't put my finger around it. I installed a walbro pump and a new relay. Everything is back together and when I turn the ignition on, the fuel pump does not run. I went through all of the procedures in the Haynes manual and I also have a honda service manual for the car. I tested the pump, relay, and wire harness. I have power to the pump when i jump out the wires at the relay connector. Everything has power and continuity when tested. The pump just does not run when the ignition is on and relay in place. It has me stupmed.

if you have power at the wires then the pump is junk

pump runs when a jumper wire is put in place at the relay connection tho...still means that the pump is junk?

oh i misread, the relay is junk

relay is new and went through the test for the relay and everything had continuity when power was involved. the relay is from napa, maybe that could be the reason..not being OEM? not sure tho, i'm gonna do some more voltage testing. Make sure that all the power sources are there at the relay. Seems like they should be since the harness testing came out fine.

this is what i have after doing some voltage testing. I went through all of the relay testing: voltage at 6 and 8, continuity at 7 and 5; voltage at 5 and 2, continuity at 1 and 3; voltage at 3 and 8, continuity at 5 and 7. Fuel pump testing: jumper wire at 5 and 7 and has voltage at pump connector. when connector is plugged in and jumper still in place pump runs. But when I have the relay in place the pump does not run. It only runs if i put a jumper on the connector of the relay between pins 5 and 7. But when i measure the voltage from the bottom of the relay between those two pins there is 12volts. It has me stumped. Its like it doesn't send the voltage to the pump unless a jumper is in place. One thing that is coming to mind and not sure if it is possible but could the pump be getting reverse polarity when ignition is turned on? Because when i installed my pump i had to changed the connections on the pump because it was set up for something else. Maybe i reveresed the power and ground on the pump compared to the car harness.

so any pics of this OP?

And btw can I see a pic of the where you guys get the floor at to reach the pump? I'd rather do that with sime tin snippers if I can than drop the whole tank.

still pretty stumped with my problem of the fuel pump not running. bought an oem relay and still has no effect. the only way the pump will run is when there is a jumper wire installed. seems to me that the contacts in the relay do not want to close to operate the pump. but looking at the diagram on the relay the two points of contacts have power when i do the harness testing.

maybe the ignition switch isnt sending the right signal to the relay?
