I have a mysterious coolant leak...

OK well I notice a leak under the CB a couple of days ago. I realized it was coolant and opened to hood to see where it was coming from. This is what I saw...

This is the top view with me taking the pic from the front of the car (bottom of pic would be toward the front of the car). It is on the driver's side, the arrow is where I seen coolant leaking in a steady drip while the car was on and gradually stopped when I shut the car off. You can see the puddle on the ground as well

This is a pic from underneath the car...

That circle is where the leak is coming from. Its a small hole of some sort, I can't
see into the hole because of the location. I tried to use a mirrow and flashlight but it wasn't working too well.

What the hell is that? I've don't have any idea...

It could be a weep hole of the water pump.

      Waterpump weep hole?

I can't really tell from the photos. Can you remove the timing belt cover and get pictures?

Weep hole? I am not sure what that is, could you explain that for me?

OK nevermind I looked it up. That actually could be what it is then. Apparently its there to indicate the water pump has either failed or failing or the seal is messed up...

Yeah sorry I know the pics are kind of confusing. I could remove the cover but I am not sure what that would accomplish. Where I circled is where the leak is coming from...

Like I said, I can remove it if it will help but I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to see.

Well if the leak is from the water pump weep hole, go ahead and replace the water pump before you blow the motor. Sounds like a good time to replace the balance belt and timing belt and possibly oil pump if you are especially motivated.

I wanted to see inside the timing cover to see if the shaft of the water pump is sitting cock-eyed.

How involved is it to replace the water pump only?

Yes I definitely agree. I would like to replace the timing belt as well but I don't know if I will be able to.

It's not hard ... per say... just tight with the motor still in the car.

The worst part is taking the crank pulley off if you are doing the oil pump.

Mirrors and lights, or a small camera with a flash, come in handy. An impact gun comes in handy when doing the crank pulley for the oil pump.

Thank you for saying that. It makes me feel kinda good.

I had that type of leak from one of American cars I had in the past.
