I don't know much about Acura either but I think Acura and Honda has the same owner or own by the same people.

What is the chance of getting a VSS at the junkyard that is still good? If the car is 22 years old and the VSS has never been replaced, it might not work for that much longer. I sure don't want to pay $135 for a new Honda's part.
    Thanks.

Theres a post somewhere around here with a link to an Ebay VSS that was under $10 IIRC.

op just replace the vss with that connecter and reset the ecu and tcu . once that is done start the car and let it run for a bit to warm up .( warm up is just my thing ) . then take it for a drive . if code 15 still comes on then you will need to replace the shift silonodes . i will post pics of them tomorrow .
What's the best way to go about snipping and reconnected wires, its in a cramped space so soldering is not an option.

I have a 96' transmission which doesn't have running wire like the 90-93 models do. I want the extra wiring but wonder if the 96 will work with the old style sensors.

          Here's what i mean, a 91 style,

          A 96' style,

          Are they compatible?

They are the same, just one has a pigtail, the other doesn't.

            P.S. ALL of the VSS's I have ever seen in a CB7 are your " 96 style " so.....

really solder and shrank tube is the best . you could just crimp it with crimps but you will more then likely be back here in a month or two.

I hear ya, thnkya. I have anotehr question or rather a concern. I can't get this fixed for a little while, am I possibly harming the transmission when it is 'slipping' and trying to find gears? Seems like it wants to self destruct on me at times when the sensor is fritzing out. THe needle moves erratically and sometimes the transmissions does too. But sometimes the sensor works and the needle. And sometimes it doesn't work at all. When it doesn't work at all it doesn't mess up shifting, should I unplug the connector so it won't do it? I'll lose all hope of having odometer and speed readings though so idk. Just depends if I am damaging it by letting it shift erratically.

I think I can be 75% sure the VSS is shorted out cause it was reading 1091 ohms when it should have been 400-600 ohms. I also checked the other 2 speed sensors, the NM and the NC and both of them had a readings between 400-600 ohms.

Also the wiring plug for the VSS did not actually have a missing pin, the pin had only been pushed out of the bore

Someone suggested that my NM speed sensor was fouled because it was a code 15. See the note in red.

                    http://techauto.awardspace.com/transmission.html

                    NC/NM speed sensor, code 9/15

Symptoms of a faulty NM speed sensor: Located at the end (passenger side) of the transmission on some models, check for code 15 or transmission jerks hard when shifting. Symptoms of a faulty NC speed sensor is the lock-up clutch does not engage. The NM or NC speed sensor (code 9) should be within 400-600 Ohms at 20-degrees C. If they are not within spec replace them. If they are within spec check for a possible short to ground but first unplug the harnesses at the TCU.

How to replace the NC speed sensor:

To locate the NC speed sensor on the back of the transmission follow two wires connected to the sensor. The sensor is located on the transmission between the engine firewall and the transmission towards the tire's mud guard on the 90-93 Accord. The NC speed sensor appears to look like a fuel injector (not the best of description.)

Reach inside with a 10 mm socket wrench and unbolt 1 bolt that holds the speed sensor in place.

Carefully twist the speed sensor as you pull it out.

                    Replace the O-ring.

How to replace the NM speed sensor:

To locate the NM speed sensor on the front of the transmission follow two wires connected to the sensor. The sensor is located on the transmission between the engine radiator and the transmission towards the tire's mud guard on the 90-93 Accord.

Author's tip on the NM/NC sensors: Usually, these sensors can pick up a lot of metal particles or metal dusts which can magnetically pile on top of the sensor surroundings. On some vehicle, the control unit simply won't function properly and the car can jerk harshly. On these cases, I simply remove the sensor then wipe and wash out the metal debris and reinstall. I then reset the computer. Everything would work as it should. The buildup of materials simply won't let the sensor read.

edit : if cloudasc takes a look or you pm him he can help brake down the codes for you . he did this for me to under stand them better.
Really? Even cause it to misshift and to slip? I think you're right though because it only does that when the spedometer is acting up, and when I unplug the VSS completely it doesn't do it anymore.

This is contrary to what I heard someone at Honda-Tech say who seemed to be an expert in auto's. He said it was the other speed sensors, the NM and the NC which caused the bad shifting.

"The NM sensor could also be fouled with ferrous material, it is a magnet. Pull it out of the cover and clean it off, same with the NC sensor, if one is fouled up the other is probably in similar condition. You will need to replace the O rings, otherwise the sensors will leak.

As for resistance, that 400-600Ω is at 20°C. If the component temperature is different from 20°C then the resistance will be different. Sorry don't know off the top of my head which way the resistance goes compared to temperature change.

With two of the three shaft speed sensors not working, the computer does not know what the transmission is physcially doing.
The TCU is working blind. That would explain the weird shifting."

you can increase you chances by getting one from a low mileage CB7 at the JY

i got my from a 93 with only 90K on it and it still works to this day!
