Loud squealing

A few weeks after i bought my car, i noticed a squealing noise when i start my car. It only squeals loud when i step on the gas for like 3 seconds then it stops. To save the embarrassment at work i would drive really slow and eventually , it would be ok to gas without screaming. But it seems to be getting worse. And it only happens when the car sits for like... more then 4 hours or so. Any ideas on what this could mean? Belts maybe?

Open the hood and locate the noise.

I'll bet $10 it is the A/C and Alt belt is either loose or glazed.

Sounds like belt related. When its cold or high revs it slips then grabs fine on moderate engine speeds.

Isolate which one by rubbing one belt at a time the sides and top with a piece of soap or spraying it with wd40 then running it to observe if it has disappeared.
